Ready for a first glimpse of GPL 1.1?

While specific details or screenshots of GPL 1.1 can't be revealed, Papyrus
has been kind enough to allow the posting of new GPaL screenshots which make
some new GPL 1.1 features pretty obvious.

A screenshot of the Race Central screen of GPaL is available for your
perusal at www.RaceLive.com/GPaL.

Your comments, feedback, and suggestions are welcome!

You can also jump on the mailing list at the site so that you will be among
the first to know when GPaL is available for download.

Thanks for your enthusiasm and support!

setting...does it has a max package loss setting too?
I know, I should awaite the patch.....

Remco...

Thanks!

But I hope you and everyone else understands that I can't even come close to
sharing any details about GPL 1.1 with anyone, beyond what Papyrus has
already publicly revealed, without being in violation of my agreement with
them. But as I mentioned, to the benefit of the entire GPL community, they
did not elect to prevent me from sharing GPaL screenshots which make some
great new GPL 1.1 features apparent.

I will be adding additional screenshots shortly that will reveal more GPaL
(and hence some more GPL 1.1) features. You might want to pay particular
attention to what's under the "Comm Sets" tab. :-)

I'd love it if that volume slider was for the volume of other cars :-)

Looks great, Jack! :-)

Hey Jack, I have a question that's not related to v1.1.  I noticed on the
screenshots that the "Damage Model" dropdown list is grey'd out.  Why?
Will we be able to run any race length with any damage model?  It's
perplexed me why race length and damage model have seemed to be
impossible for all of the utility programmers such as yourself to
seperate.  Any insight you can give us on this?  Thanks.

I am assuming that GPaL will be released at the same time as GPL 1.1 (May
31?).

I am also assuming you have the patch.  Which FF wheel are you using?  How
do you like it?

Bill! You win the prize! I was wondering when someone was going to ask that
question and you're the first! You are hereby awarded the first GPaL
Attention To Detail Award! Your check is in the mail. :)

Excellent question. You will notice in the screenshot that the currently
selected Mode is "Multiplayer". As you know, in all modes except Training,
GPL dictates the damage model. So unless the selected mode is Training, GPaL
disables ("grays out") the Damage Model dropdown. You can't change it, but
it still shows you the damage model that will be in effect based on the
Level (Novice, Intermediate, or Pro) that you've chosen.

But to address your real concern, the good news is that GPaL will allow you
to select a Level (and hence the Damage Model) then adjust the number of
Laps to virtually anything you like.

So, for example, if you wanted to run a 50-lap Novice event at Spa you could
pinball your way through Masta with impunity, until you're exhausted. Oh,
and by the way, with force feedback enabled, you'd never make it the full
distance without a serious pre-event conditioning program! :)

Sound like fun?

Did I miss something?  Is May 31 REALLY the date? Where'd you get the date,

May 31 is my announced target for GPaL. To the best of my knowledge, Papyrus
has not announced a release date for GPL 1.1.

The release of GPaL is not dependent upon the release of GPL 1.1, although
you'll need 1.1 to take advantage of all of GPaL's features.

I'm a little reluctant to talk about what kind of wheel I have at this
point, in fairness to controller manufacturers. Soon enough everyone will be
able to talk about products x, y, and z with GPL 1.1 and, at that point,
anybody making a buying decision will be much better informed. Right?

But, I will say that the wheel that I have I like even more now! :)

Looks fantastic.  I am always in awe of ppl like you, Jack.  All the effort,
skill and time you put in to a project like this.  I know this has nothing
to you with GPaL and you can't tell me if it has been incorporated into
GPL1.1, but seeing as you 'have-the-ear' of Papyrus, could you mention that
a save game option in GP length races would make the game perfect :).

Thanks again for your efforts with GPaL, what you are doing here is
stunning.

Matthew.

Damn, I have to skip any thread with you involved or I need a new keyboard
every day (spooge). But then I miss the release of GPaL....

Between a rock and a hard place! ;^)
