GPL Lock-Up Problem

Julian:

I downloaded the 1.2 patch and v2.53 of the glide2x.dll file and now GPL
runs fine.

I can't remember off-hand where I got them but I can check if you want.

GPL Lock-Up Problem

by Julian Taylo » Sat, 17 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I recently purchased a PIII 667 cpu. My m/b is an Asus P2B rev 1.02. This
provides an "unofficial" 133 fsb and also a PCI divider of 1/4 at this speed
according to what I've gleaned from newsgroups etc. (Video card is PCI). GPL
etc ran fine at 112 bus and cpu speed of 560 mhz with my PC100 ram. I then
bought PC133 ram to run the cpu at its rating of 667. Windows and non-glide
games like Quake III and F1 2000 run fine at 667mhz - 133 bus, but GPL locks
up - game is still running, sounds continue but video is frozen- same
symptoms I've seen others post previously.
I have brought the bus back to 112Mhz and can run GPL again!? I can't
understand if its a problem with my system being unstable at 133 bus, why
other games work.
I have tried all the usual things - nothing runnng in the background ie
screensavers etc, reinstalled GPL with none of the add-ons. Have latest
drivers for soundcard and video. Direct X 7.0A and patched GPL version 1.02
(BTW - you dont have to first patch with first patch and then patch 1.02 to
that do you?)
System specs are:
Asus P2B 1.02
Soundblaster Live Value
PCI Voodoo3 2000 - not overclocked.(I have a "3dfx cool" twin fan cooler on
the card).
PIII 667 Flip Chip using Gigabyte slotkey adapter (voltage 1.8 ie 1.5 over
spec - lowest P2B will go). Standard Intel fan/heatsink - retail version.
64 MB PC 133 Hyundai ram

I think my only option left is to fdisk and reinstall windows and
everything - any other suggestions?

GPL Lock-Up Problem

That doesnt seem to have helped - it does just go in the GPL directory?
Anyway tried it in Windows/System as well and no luck. If I trying using it,
it only lets me run in software mode - if I choose 3dfx it says I have to
restart game to take effect, and then it has gone back to software mode -
also only lets me choose 640x480. I also tried the George Smiley glide2x.dll
and glide.ini fix - but still locked up after a while. Running out of
ideas...

GPL Lock-Up Problem

Don't use Glide 2.53 with a Voodoo3, its a Voodoo2 driver.

That probably isnt the cause of the lockup though, only suggestion I have is
check that the operating core voltage is within specs (I'm not sure what it
is).

What resolution do you run GPL at, try turning it down to see if its the vid
card overheating although it's unlikely with the cooler.

If it's running stable at 112 FSB and only crashing at 133 then the GPL
installation is probably ok and the problem is likely to be with the system.
You say it only supports 133 "unnofficially" maybe that's the culprit.
