Wait! I just did 3 consecutive laps at 3.29.xx at LeMans in a Ferrari!!!
Heck, I felt like I'd just driven all 24 hours and won the thing... it's
that big of an accomplishment for me. I don't know who posted the tip of
trying the gear altered 'ring setup instead of Spa but it's really paid off
for me. Unfortunately, since dl'ing and installing Sarthe I have spent "NO"
time at any other track in GPL... this does not bode well for my Rouen time
improving.

I've always found it rather difficult to take Ascari flat out, unless I get
the perfect line into it, and then I'm also having to work hard to avoid
turning the wheel too much.

Are you sure you're getting enough speed out of Lesmo 2?

I've also checked my laps against the Aliens', and found that I was actually
losing time through Ascari.

Since then I've improved a bit - have done 1:27.67 in practice, and some
high 1:27s in online races.

In my experience you can gain time in *all* the corners at Monza, not just
Lesmo 2.

I do yes.
I take L1 in 2nd then accelerate. If I've got the power on really well,
I upshift to 3rd then slam the brakes on. Otherwise, I change up when
I'm braking for L2 so I'm already in 3rd for the exit. You get much
better traction out of the turn. A simple way to check is to do it in
2nd and make a mental note of when you shift up to 5th, then do it in
3rd and you'll see that you're in 5th about 100m earlier.

Clearly a setup problem. With default setup for example it's a lot
harder than with setups from Monza-Meister Leonardo Grandis.

True, my pb is 1:27.36 now. For some reason I loose most time in the
Para, a couple of tenths.. compared to the aliens my entry to para is
just as fast, and my exit is just as fast too, but in the slowest
section of the para I'm losing the time.. I don't understand it, I
take the same line, but when I give more throttle to compensate the
loss of speed I immediately loose my car, for my feeling I'm allready
driving on the edge..

And lesmo 1 and 2 are such weird corners.. you have to take them
super-smooth, without sliding the car. So if you take L1 and 2 right,
it will actually feel very slow..

1:29.22 is very close to 1:28, and I'm sure you can get the Eagle down to
the same times as the Lotus.  You only have to improve a little bit in one
corner to get into the 1:28s.

Is it worth it though?  You could spend five hours getting 0.25s faster at
Monza, when in the same time you could take 1s off at Mosport or Mexico, or
4s at the ring.

Well after taking lots of advice from all a had a quick pop at it again last
night ..only 20 mins or so......Got my laptimes to the same as with
throttle/brake help..1.30.5 ish......   so its now just a case of getting
all the braking points right...& squeeze the throttle gently coming out of
bends........
heres a quick lap
start/finish...up to 195ish...then a quick dab of the brakes..down a cog(is
this right).then its about 160ish around Curva Granda with flat
throttle....then back up to top gear.......around della....then brake (lots)
down to 2nd and drift through lesmos 1 then squirt the throttle then....hold
my breath through lesmos 2... still in 2nd(I take it this should be 3rd)
then up into top for ascari(I sometime give myself a small confidence lift
of throttle before...(I'll be losing time here aswell)....flat out... then
brake just after the *** marks into parabolica...2nd gear...then start
easing more throttle after the curb on the right dissapears.....whilst
*** on to the wheel so that I dont wipe out on the barrier on the
left(done that a few time I can tell ya)
My problem is confidence through lesmos2
But its hell of a lot more fun without the aids!!!!!!

Damn...You lot have converted me......
Thanks for all your help.....
Still have yet to try the squash ball thing!

Actually Eldred, I've just seen your new GPLRank of +20.90 so I won't be
giving you any more advice ever again <g>, since you're only 3 seconds
behind me!  Actually, have you thought about playing GPL on the keys using
the BRM, that's the real way to get your GPLRank down ;)

Actually, I think I was wrong there, they do squeel a little with optimal
braking.

You freaked me out 'oz' with the 160mph... I smile like hell when I can
squeeze150mph there but never know what I have until the replay. I've
always gone into Lesmo1 in 2nd and try to get in & out tightly but with
a good 80+mph & crank it hard into Lesmo 2 but again take it as tight
as I can..
I average low 129s but havent run Monza on purpose since I want all
my other track times down as low as I can. Monza & Spa are my fav
tracks so I am punishing myself by not running them...lol

Hmm... where can I get this piece of art?

Hmm... maybe another setup problem? Suspension? Maybe the aliens run
a more asymmetric (= undriveable by human) thing?

As for changing gears between Lesmos: I use a 2nd gear that just
redlines at the braking point for Lesmo 2. Then it depends:
for hotlaps I keep that 2nd for accelerating out of Lesmo2,
for safe racing laps I switch to 3rd early. (but only after the braking
zone of Lesmo 2, I like the brake power of the engine in 2nd :)
