graphics card problem, please help!

I just bought a "Graphics Blaster 3D" graphics card with 4 megs.  My N2
frame rate still sucks the big one.  Is it because I only have a Pentium
75 or is my card not set up correctly.  I thought it should be a heck of
a lot better than my old 1 meg g.c. but it's not!  Any suggestions?

Sounds like you bought the wrong Creative Labs card.  The Rendition one
that N2 is designed to take advantage of is the 3D Blaster PCI.

You're card is set up OK, it just sucks. I made sure that when I "tried"
that card, Best Buy had a 30-day return policy. The only thing that card is
good for is Win95 apps or Direct3D games, which N2 is not. It is a TERRIBLE
game card for DOS games. You get what you pay for, I guess.

I recently upgraded to a P-133 and after playing N2 (DOS mode) with that
card I thought, "THIS is a P-133?" I exhanged it for a Matrox Mystique 4MB
and while I should have pumped the extra dough into a Rendition-based card
(which Best Buy doesn't carry, so look elsewhere), I am thrilled with the
Mystique. I run N2 smoothly with all options turned on except
grass/asphalt, even in arcade view. ICR2 runs lightning fast everything
with on. All of my DOS-based games run very fast and Windows95 games run
good, too. I can't give you exact fps, but I am very comfortable with the
framerates I get.

The Creative Labs card to get is the 3D Blaster PCI, not the
GraphicsBlaster 3D. Too bad Creative Labs can't creatively name their
cards. I shoulda known when I opened the box and saw the Cirrus Logic chip
on the card that it was a dog. It runs Monster Truck Madness pretty well,
but big deal.

Yep.  Hope like hell that wherever you bought it takes returns.  Then buy a
Rendition based card like Sierra Screamin' 3d or 3d Blaster PCI if you're
buying the 3d card mainly to run N2.  After you get the Rendition card,
make sure you download the latest appropriate drivers.

I too went with the Matrox Mystique 4mb.I was using a Diamond stealth 3d
2000 2mb with the latest vbe20 driver.I am running a 100mhz pent.w-32meg
edo ram 512pb cache and according to a benchmark test program(cbench)
the machine is at 25.9fps with the mystique vs.25.7fps for the
stealth. Not a big difference numbers wise but a much cleaner sharper and
smoother on the screen.I had considered the Rendition cards but I had
heard they were not that great on other dos games. All in all I am quite
pleased with the mystique and I'm sure it will get better once I upgrade
to a 200mhz pent. and 64meg edo ram.
