GPL Graphics Problem...PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

by Roy Blanchett » Sun, 07 May 2000 04:00:00

I am running GPL with the 1.2 patch and the graphics are not quite right,
the trees,cars,people and
grass are what I would expect to see BUT the track surface is quite heavily
pixalated in black and
white and the racing groove is red.

I am using a voodoo3 card with the latest drivers and my sysetm is a n AMD
k62-500
with 500mb pc100 dimm

I would be greatfull if someone could shed some light on this problem.

Thanks

The latest V3 drivers are beta drivers, and most likely the cause of the
problem.  Go back to the last DX6 or DX7 retail drivers and see if it fixes
the problem.

Make sure you have all the glide tweaks turned off (unchecked)
especially triple buffering.

The last time I tried them they worked well in GPL but messed up my
desktop apps (toolbars, icons, etc.).  I went back to the DX7x non-beta
version.

right==> Snip!

Hi Roy...

My system is also a K6-2.  My card is also a Voodoo 3.   I had the same
exact problems that you did.  But I found the fix on this great newsgroup.
I forgot the name of the file, but it was an updated version of Glide.
Somebody in this group suggested that I download this new Glide version and
stick it directly into my GPL main directory.

I did that, and my problem was solved.  I'm sorry that I forgot where I
found the newer Glide to fix it.  But maybe somebody can jump in here and
enlighten us.

All I know is that my graphics were all messed up, like your are, until I
did the fix.  Now my GPL will run in any screen resolution with perfect
graphics.  It would only run in 640X480 before I fixed it.

You can tell if the newer Glide has taken over by the size of the GPL menus
after the fix.  They are half the size of before, and are up in the left-top
corner of my screen.  But once you clear the menu screens, the screen size
reverts to the normal size.

Ok...somebody jump in here and let Roy know where to find the newer version
of Glide to fix his problem.

Pops...

My friend has a K6-2 with a Voodoo 3 and has the exact same problem. On
the Voodoo 3 message board someone said that limiting texture memory to 2
megs would solve the problem but it didn't.

ok sounds like u need the "banshee fix" for gpl

I used it when I first hooked up my V3 , but found shortly after that I
no longer needed it.  I believe this was updated V3 drivers that
resolved this.

Damn can't remember where i found it, try www.fastlane.com
