Someone MAKE THESE GAMES!!!!!!

I remember that before Grand Prix II was officially announced, there
were all sorts of rumours floating around the software industry that
Geoff Crammond was actually writing a Touring Car game.  Maybe these
rumours were devised to put people off the trail of Grand Prix II,
or maybe he really was thinking about doing one.

I think there are a couple of rally games on the way.  *** are
writing one, plus Europress are apparently working on a new version
of "Network Q RAC Rally".  If anyone remembers the Europress offering,
it was graphically very neat, but awful in game play stakes.  If they
update the graphics system to todays standards, and improve the way
the car handles, it could be a winner.  Sadly, the best home machine
based Rally simulator appears to be Sega Rally on the Saturn.  If
anyone get's a chance to try this one out, please do.  It's amazing
(for a game :-)

Steve.

How come, even though the BTCC races are apparently watched by over 1
billion people worldwide, no-one has decided to do a game based
around it. I mean lets face it, it wouldn't be too different from
Nascar by Papyrus (incidentally, the BTCC carset for Nascar is
available at The Pits now, incuding privateers...
http://www.ukps.com/thepits/) except that the cars body shapes would be
different from one another (you can't pass a Peugeot off for a Mondeo)
and qualifying and races would be in a slightly different format.
Someone, DO IT NOW!!!! (please)
A fully 3D rally game wouldn't be half bad either, with Subarus,
Mitsubishis and Cosworths as well as Celicas.

Cheers (like someone is actually gonna make one)

Driven a lot of rally cars have you?

For a start the main idea is not to crash into each other. Unlike open
wheel racing, saloon racing offers us the oppertunity to try more
adventuous manouvres. In most case, not have very effective
aerodynamics mean that the cars slide and therefore the odd touch is
inevitable.

We're all gentlemen and give each other room and I've never
deliberatly hit someone or be hit myself.

In fact, during this years BTCC I don't recall any accidents directly
caused by deliberate ramming.

Who said he was laying shit? I though he was expressing an opinion.

Why not provide a selection of chassis, tracks from around the world
and the ability to make a mix and match field of various chassis
types?

Oh and for the record, I read nearly everyweek in Autosport one driver
or the other, usually from abroad, saying that the BTCC is the most
challenging and exciting 2L touring car series to race in the world.
And before you start raving about the whooping we got in the world
cup, it's widely excepted that the the cars we had weren't suited to
the track. And thats NOT my opinion.

As long as it was supported by a full development section otherwise
flooring it and heading in a straight line would be a bit dull.
Mind you, thats what you think rallyings about ain't it?

If they simulated the tipping viewpoint of the bike, they'd probably
get complaints of players feeling sea-sick!

Pretty cool idea.

Can they simulate bruised knees and nausea from following in someones
exhaust for half an hour?

I know you were only making apoint but I thought I'd express my
opinions.

Whats the point of a rally game...am\nyone can floor the accel and bang
their way around the forest, and as for you idea about a BTTC sim not
everyone is looking for a game where the main idea seems to be to crash
into other cars, maybe you should try DDerby.

See Dave anyone can lay shit on someone else's idea but it doesn't prove
anyything.

For the record, my wish list
1.   2L touring car sim (BTTC may be a bit limited given there is
also Aus,USA(96),South Africa,Italy(?) + others I may not be aware
     of running 2l tourers.

2.   Drag Racing Sim, just for the fun of it.

3.   A good rally sim (I still want my money back for Network Q Rally!!)

4.   A Bike sim (GP/Superbike)

5.   Truck Racing Sim

6.   Formula Ford Sim

7.   A car with 4 wheels racing other cars with 4 wheels on closed
circuit race tracks around the world...

8.   A Sportscar/Production car (McLaren R.I.P.,Ferrari, Bugatti, etc)

Get the idea....

Smile
Anthony.

Dude, what the hell are you talkin' about? Have you ever seen the
entire P-D rally? ...that's what I thought.
Goin' thru narrow streets, roads and corners at 60+ mph is what anyone
can do huh? Well, maybe anyone except for those who got there drivers
licence here.

: 8.   A Sportscar/Production car (McLaren R.I.P.,Ferrari, Bugatti, etc)
                                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You mean the McLaren F1 maybe? (w/ the 6.1 BMW engine)

Yes but some ideas contain rather greater proportions of shit than others, as do some people's
attitudes. Lay off the hassling and post something informative or entertaining.

I personally would really like to see a BTCC based sim and since Geoff is based in the UK and
exposed to this great series, I would say he is infinitely more likely to consider a game based
upon it wouldn't you? I'm sure the Aussie series is fun but it does tend to sound like "Oooh
let's stick a HUGE engine in this hog of a chassis and see how fast it goes". Gimme a rally sim
anyday.

Cheers

That's the beauty of it... even though the forest tracks are as wide as a footpath and the
bends are as tight as a gnat's chuff, as well as the road rally tracks having
near-impossible corners and super-fast straights, all the drivers have to do is put their
foot down and the car negotiates the courses. Kinda like drag racing, only WITH corners...

I can lay shit on all sorts of things but I always get more shit back in the end!!

Quite!

Go on then, smile Anthony!

Wrong group but last post.

I only saw/get to see a limited coverage of the BTCC unfortunatly but it
does seem to me that on occasion Mr John Cleland (sp) can get a bit
err...over vigorous??? but I'm not complaining, and what about the Volvo
teams effort in the last race (did they end up getting fined for that ?)
try to take John Cleland out or the race. I actually think they should
remove/reduce the wings to increase the passing as it was in 1994. The
original post was only meant to highlight the fact that everyone is
entitled to their own opinion.

Lets face it we are all crazy anyway!

If only all of this would get us a Touring car Sim, what potential!

Definitely.  Full-bodied cars on a road course -- can't beat it.

With network play, including outside views of the action for the
non-participants.  But of course, accurately having something move
100mph on a network connection is hard enough -- never mind 300mph.

Would be fun.  I think a Pike's Peak Hillclimb simulator would be neat.

And then maybe first-person view motocross (with one button for looking
behind you, of course).  While we're at it, how about off-road truck
racing, or the Mickey Thompson series -- at least when it existed.

But not NASCAR Supertrucks, please.  Those old SCCA racetrucks sure
were fun to watch, and I bet they'd be fun to simrace, too.

Hmm... I dunno.

There's a novel idea.

Hee hee, how about a 24 Heures du Mans sim!

Things left out:

Sprint cars, dammit! Sprint cars!  As more and more people get wheels
and pedals, the possible market grows and grows.  Sling some simulated mud!

Golden Years of Racing: The cars of yesterday, on the tracks of yesterday.
Fancy battling it out with Fangio?

...

now if only I'd find a real nice deal on a computer that could actually
run any of these things.  For now I just read and drool, read and drool.

One point. I know we all have faster machines these day and that all
these wonderful graphics are possible but do we actually need them?

I'd rather processor time was devoted to making the game fast and
playable than with all the extranious scenery.

I'm not saying we go back to polygon graphics al-la F1GP but to tell
you the truth, I couldn't tell you what was writtin on any of the
hoardings at half the tracks in Nascar and Indycar.

Texture the cars, kerb, barriers and other bits but to be honest, I
don't have time to read hoardings at 200mph, I'm to busy watching the
car in front.

Come to mention it, why not devote some of the processor time to some
realistic crashes? Having done it for real, it's a whole new world
rolling a touring car!

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to add my vote to this thread, I feel a new
motorcycle racing sim is long overdue! I remember the Accolade game, Gpbikes
or something like that, it's pretty primitive by todays standards , but the
idea was good. What I would like to see for a new idea in racing sims is a
sim involving outboard tunnel boat racing, I have a friend who raced these
things and got the chance to watch him race, its pretty darn cool!!
Imagine it, these things do like 130 mph, pull major cornering G's, and you
have to fly them right on the last inch of the hull. If you get to***y
with the trim switch you blow the boats right over backwards! Sounds like a
fun racing sim to me, just thought I'd throw this out as a thought.

I reckon it's pretty much sound that most people want a [decent] rally
game, a BTTC game (or any championship) and a superbikes game as well
as the sportscars and the open road racing games. Now, the thing is, no
one wants to make them!! Why the hell not??

Actually, to tell you the truth, loads of rumours were flying around a
while ago concerning Geoff Crammond doing a Touring Cars game [already
mentioned in this thread] as well as a superbikes game. I think the
superbikes game was well into production but was put on hold for a
while as GP2 is a big project. There are also rumours about Mr.
Crammond using the GP2 engine to do a Touring Car game after GP2 is
released! That would be cool if all the new physical aspects in GP2
were included, and if it was based around the world's greatest tourers
championship - the BTTC.

I don't think it'll be too long until the PC has a game to rival Sega Rally
(one of the coolest games I have played). If you look at recent releases like
Screamer it seems that a lot of new Playstation/Saturn games are being copied
by software houses and put on the PC - ie it seems very similar to Ridge
Racer...

At least I hope we get a Sega Rally clone pretty damn soon...
