Anybody making a 'game' out of racing?

by Dave Marti » Fri, 27 Mar 1998 04:00:00

In the past few months I have purchased and enjoyed CPR and Burnout, but I
have a problem with this whole genre really.
Take Burnout for example...I can jump into a car and suddenly add huge
custom engine, transmission etc without any cost or the enjoyment of having
'earned' these things.
Is anybody making or planning on making an auto racing or drag sim that
involves winning money, buying and mainting equipment, gaining sponsors etc?
I enjoy auto-sims but it seems like they could be so much more of a complete
game than they have been to this date.

Just thinking out loud:)

Years ago, there was a game called Hot Rod 2. Really cool.
You started out with the classifieds and 500 bucks. You picked out a
late 50's-60's car from a variety of real cars -Galaxies, Vette's,
etc. You could street race for money and buy new parts for the car.
It was cool, since you could up the bet on the race, and I think it
even let you race for pink slips. The computer driver would accept or
deny your offer.
You could swap engines. You could replace the exhaust, carb,
trans, and repaint. I played through the game with a 427 Galaxie 500.
It was cheap and fast.
The game was probably out in around 93 or so, and would be way out of
date now. It ran great on a 286.
If you could snag it somewhere, it'd still be fun to play.

Hi Myros,
Not sure if you would like this but it has some of the
features you describe.
Its called F1 Career and it is free. You can get it
here.......http://www.ozemail.com.au/~bazar/
This works with F1rs or GP2 and it is a stand alone program. You just enter
your results etc.
You get a contract and pay etc. All in all quite fun.Try it if you already
have a F1 type sim that you can
enter the results from. BTW I think your idea would be cool to see
implemented in a sim.

Is there a similar program available for Nascar 2.

Thank You

Hi,
There was a program under development by one of the people at Papy,
it was called NASCAR Manager, but I think it was scrapped, or at least
put on hold.  From what I understand, you could manage a team, pick crew
members (watching out for personallity conflicts, etc).  You could also
be an owner/driver, or you could just watch your car from the
sidelines.  It's too bad, it would have added an interesting new
dimention to the game.

Well I for one was told(by a mate) that you raced a meet, earned some
money based on results
and was able too buy more *** and better quality parts(eg Street
Rod). Well I played
and bummer nothing of the sort. Absolutley no probs with the game for me
but not having
the money/buying side really let it down. Really who wants to be a
champion if it only
takes a couple of hours, work it out over a couple of seasons I rekon.

Yep, it was awesome. The original Street Rod was even better. I wish
they made another sequel.

>Years ago, there was a game called Hot Rod 2.

Also, the Original Marrio Andretti (Not the one that came out in the
last year, this one came out in the early 90's)  racing was like this.
You started of in the sprint serris, and with the winnings, you could
move up to Moddifies, Stock Cars, Indy Cars, F-1, Prototype's.  Cool
little game,
