Sega's MANX-TT motorcycle racing game

Sega's MANX-TT motorcycle racing game

I was in EB tonight and ran across MANX:TT by Sega -- which is the "Isle
of Wight" motorcycle racing game based on the Console and Arcade
version.  I was e***d to see that it supported 3dfx, so I ended up
buying it.

Well, it's going back tomorrow -- it sucks.  Sorry .. that's about all I
can say.  It pales in every sense to MotoRacer ..

o  The graphics are not as sharp as MR
o  The bikes are not nearly as controllable (this might be better with
a good joystick)
o  There are only TWO tracks, that's right .. TWO (at least you can
race them in both directions)
o  The sound is total cheese
o  I played it about 30-45 minutes and just uninstalled it ... yuck.

All-in-all, I felt like it was a WEAK console port ...  Had the 17-level
deep configuration menus, etc ...

Save your $$$ ...

Doug

P.S.  Of course, these views represent my opinion, which is worth what
you paid for it.

I also picked up Manx TT. I have only played it for a couple of hours,
but I like it more than you did.

Really? I think they're better. There is more realistic scenery lining
the track. Houses and trees, and nice looking shadows along the tree
line side of the track.
I did have a glitch going through the tunnels, where the screen
actually brightened. I believe it was supposed to darken.
The tunnels are less than 2 second affairs, so it's not a big issue.

I'm using a Gamepad, and I'd say its a wash. I tried using a Wingman
Extreme, and even a Thrustmaster T2 for Motoracer (did that feel
silly!), but the Gamepad is still the best choice.

Yes... I like the length of the second course. It is much longer than
the MotoRacer street tracks. The road surface changes are a nice
touch. By nature, the game depicts one race, the Isle Of Man TT, which
is done on the streets.
I actually don't really like the MotoRacer street tracks too much.
The Manx TT tracks are more representative of real roads to me.
I love MotoRacer for the dirt tracks, since motocross bikes are my
main interest when I'm not doing the computer geek thing.  :)

Agreed. At 14,000 RPM's, the bike sounds like it's turning about
3,000. The bike depicted, a Honda RC45 is a V4.
While the V4's don't have the screaming urgent sound of an inline 4,
the also don't sound like a 4 cylinder car cruising to K-Mart.

If number of tracks are important to you, I agree.
If you're a street bike fan, I say it's worth the money. Manx awards
smoothness, which is nice. The corners are easier to carry momentum
through, without being _too_ easy, which is important.
The game is also cheap, 28 bucks, which is a nice break from the
regular 45-50 dollar price of new games.

Can you tell us if it's an "accurate"  Isle of Man ?  I would buy it just for
that.  The real track is about 38 miles around and the fast guys average over
100mph,  so a lap should take about 23 minutes.

I wish. I didn't know if anyone else would even know much about the
race, so I didn't get into it.
Lap times are only 3-4 minutes (rough estimate).
The scenery is nice, inspired by Man, but not actual.

This is one of the coolest races in the world, and relatively unknown
here. Glad to know someone else out there is into it.  :)

The video is called " V For Victory " and the rider is Joey Dunlop the King of
the Isle of Man ! The video is still available for sale.
For everything you would ever want to know about the Isle
of Man TT races go to the excellent and official Isle of Man home page at
www.isle-of-man.com  and go to the sports/TT section.  There is a "detailed"
description of a lap around the track by Steve Hislop.

Me too. I have a video from a Honda V4 promo that is on bike V4 900

The "through the buildings" chicane is a little too tight, but very
much in the spirit of the IOM.

Nice try Doug - close, but not close enough.  Having lived on the Isle of
Wight for 10 years I can safely say that the MANX:TT isn't held there.
*BUT* it is an easy mistake to make and even people over here confuse the
Isle of Wight with the Isle of Man.  It's not a bad idea though, having a
race around the IoW!!

Just to clarify... The bike is actually a V4 750cc Honda... there is
no V4 900.
  See you there in June!

I thought so too. I had an 1100 V4 at the time. I swear they said it
was a 900 tho. I'll have to dig up the tape and see. (Sounds like a
good idea anyway 8->).
