T2 Problems with WIN95

by Remko Wetering » Thu, 15 May 1997 04:00:00

Hello racefans,
Does anybody have the T2 steering wheel working wel in WIN95.
Mine works fine in DOS but now I've tried using it in windows 95 with NFS2
but when I configure it on the control panel the croshairs are all the way
at the
bottom and only come up a little bit when i press the gas pedel.
My normal gravis joystick works fine in win95.
I've measured the resistance of the T2 and that of the joystick and the T2
has double the resistance.

Can anybody help me solve this problem?

Thank in advance,
        Remko

Mine works fine.  Does it do that after you have calibrated the T2 when
you run test.  When I calibrate mine under Win 95 it will show no
movement for the brake, but when I test it everything works fine.

Get a program from Thrustmasters site and adjust your pots with it.  I
had to do this once before.  The instructions with this program really
suck, which is an understatement.  I have found that when you***load
up the program run it through its movements and pay attention to the
distance from the center on the x-y graph the crosshair travels.  It
should be about equal.  If not unscrew the base and remove the plastic
gas and brake pedals (this will allow the cover to be removed).  You
will need a small phillips***driver, 7/16 combination wrench, and a
flat head***driver.  Next, you will remove the plastic gear that is
attatched to the pot.  This gear may need a little coaxed a little with
the flat head***driver, it only needs a very light amount of
twisting to remove the gear.  From here the adjustments are trial and
error.  You will want to get the crosshairs to move about the same
distance up and down.  I have done any adjustments to the actual
steering. When doing the adjustments you will, of course want to
re-install the gear on the pot, and hit the recal button so that the
crosshairs are centered.  Once adjustent try recalibrating the joystick
in windows 95 and then test to see if it has solved the problem.  If not
call Thurstmaster or leave them an e-mail and they will send you new
hardware.

I have the same problem.  When I do the Test in the Joystick control
panel applet, it works for the most part but the center is too low and
it jumps to the top near the end of the gas pedal's travel.  In
itself, this doesn't bother me but when I play a game like Interstate
76 the gas pedal is VERY flakey.  Sometimes when I floor it I only get
up to 35mph and other times 120mph in the same stretch of road.  All
works consistently with the keyboard.   I have a similar problem in
any game which uses the Win95 joystick control panel applet for
calibration.  All DOS games and Win95 games with their own calibration
system work fine.   (BTW, I have it set up like Thrustmaster
suggests...as custom 2-axis, 4-button, race controller.)

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

I have problems with T2 and NFS2 also.  I calibrate in Win95 and test,
and it works fine.  I start NFS2 and it works fine for about ten minutes
or so, and then the gas peddle doesn't work right.  I press it down all
the way, and I only get about 75% response from the game.  This is
really annoying because if you shift you might as well have slammed on
the brakes the car slows so much.  So I quit, go to joystick setup and
test it.  It's always messed up, and I always have to recalibrate.  My
T2 works fine in DOS games, and it works fine in MTM, my only other
Win95 based game that uses the T2.  I would appreciate any help that you
can give.  Thanks.

I was having the same exact problem with Interstate 76 and my
Thrustmaster T2.  I FOUND A SOLUTION!  I bought a Thrustmaster ACM
sped-adjustable game card.  It has a utility to set the speed of the
port to work with faster computers.  (I have a 200MMX.)  After
adjusting the speed of the port I76 works like a charm.  I can also
use the pedals in Screamer2 which would not work at all before.  The
card is about $35 at Best Buy.   (You can probably find it cheaper.)

Anyway, it solved ALL my T2 problems!

Thank Matt,
The moving of the gears so there less resistance helped.

I would assume that you went into NASCAR and defined the gas and brake
pedal properly under the controls menu.  My T2 works fine under WIN 95
and DOS.  I would suggest trying to talk to Thrustmaster.

Well after calibrating the pedals range is fine.  And looks ok in
the test.  But before calibrating, the range wasn't very good.
Anyhow, I can't get N2 to recognize the pedals.  The wheel works and
the pedals work in I76, but N2 will calibrate them but not accept them
as gas or brake.  I've used the adapter under windows and without
under a dos boot, but the dang pedals aren't there, the buttons and
shifter works so for the momemnt I've set up the shifter for gas and
brake, not the best solution.

yUP, finally got the whole package working well together, it's been
probably 2 months of sporadic attempts.  And after 2 days of
EVERYTHING working the way it's supposed to....
My accelerator pot won't return to neutral.  The springs are ok but
even without touching the pedals, I get acceleration.  This is even
after several calibrations in Win95 AND N2.  If I don't hit the brake,
I go into an immediate wheel spin.  It's kinda like the idle of a real
car being set WAAAYY too high.  I'm guessing the pot on the right
pedal has gone bad.  I've emailed TM and am waitng on a reply.
