Thrusmaster T2 question : using it in WIN95 games

To all who uses T2 controllers,

I am helping a friend get his T2 controller along with SB16 sound card
as the game interface to work in WIN95.
We are frustrated and confused.

We have great success using the T2 in DOS games, but when it comes
to using it in WIN95, We cant get it to calibrate when you select
the joystick icon in the control panel. We have tried two different
computers with same sound board and still did not calibrate.

When the icon is selected, and with all controls centered, the crosshair
pointer in in pinned to the far lower right hand corner. I have the
adaptor attached for T2. I have tried all the suggestions thrustmaster
has mentioned in FAQ with no success(such as setting range to 201-201_)
etc.  Then when you get into the game the car just goes around in
circles. We even removed the adaptor to see if it would recognize it
as joystick #2. Nop, didnt work.

We can't believe we have to buy a special card just to run WIN95 games.
The only reason I am questioning that is because my TSW wheel contoller
works fine with the WIN95 calibration and all thats in these controllers
are variable pots and switches. What is so special with the other cards
and the T2 in WIN95?

So if anybody has gotten this combination to work with WIN95, can you
give us some suggestions to get by the calibration.

Thanks for any help,

Dave Thayer

I went through the same ordeal just tonight. But, I use a Thrustmaster
ACM card. I don't know why the TSW works, maybe it has better pots. I
had
to use the ACM's own speed calibration control to get it to calibrate in
Win95. You DO need the axis converter to be plugged in. Your joystick
setup should be 2 axes, 2 buttons. It doesn't seem to matter if you
check
the "is a race car controller" box under "Special Features" even though
MTM's help says not to. Mine works both ways.

IMPORTANT! If you do get an ACM card, when you configure it in
System/Device
Manager under Sound, Video and Game controllers, the Thrustmaster ACM
Game
Card Properties/Resources should be set to "Basic Configuration 0". I
think Win95 defaults to "3" which doesn't work.

When I couldn't get the little crosshairs out of the lower-right hand
corner,
I tried adjusting the ThrustMaster's speed adjustment pot. It moved the
crosshairs to the center of the box. Then, I continued with the Win95
calibration routine. I suspect that if I *didn't* have the ACM card, I
would not be able to calibrate my T1 in Win95. Like you said, it works
fine in DOS.

Looks like you're gonna be spending another $35. Sorry, and good luck!

Pat.
