Already Thursday and my best so far is only a low 1:22. The rest of you
had better be faster than that because, I want to tell you, this track
is too narrow to allow any passing. If you're not in front of me at the
start, you're not going to get by unless (until!) I spin off.

And where the track _is_ wide enough, I'm all over it anyway, so you're
still not going get past. The car is downright squirrelly under
braking, and the run down through the twisty bits from Holden to the
straight is a barely managed disaster.

Nice scenery though! Does the paddock clubhouse serve VB after the
race? I'm goning to need one.

Hi Darryl:

I hope you mean 2:22.  If not you are going to be lapping
me on the third lap.

How many laps are we doing?  I show 40% as 5 laps.  I'd
like to figure a fuel load so I don't run out of gas this time.

I hope you meant 3:22 or Im in trouble hehe.  Im down in the 2.30's
pretty consistent.  The final gear is just not right, one is to high the
other is to low.  Bathurst is quite a track.  This track just kinda
sucks you along ;)

40 laps Larry. Can't share any times as although I know the track from
NR2003, I haven't done any laps in ETCC yet. I'll get some done today.

Picky, picky!! <LOL!!> Yeah, it was probably 2.22, or 3.22, or even
4.22. <g> I cranked the gear ratios up (down?) a bit to get more
speed on that long straight. Now, if the car wasn't so twitchy under
braking, I might be able to get around the first part of the chicane
before I started braking. But it _is_ twitchy, so I start braking
even before I start easing right. I think I'm getting up to around
268 before I back off and gradually start slowing down. KPH.

I think I got DQ'd when I flew through that kink coming down the long hill
straight :)  Talk about un-stable breaking.  I was turnin some of my best
laps ever 2.18's but my tires only lasted 4-5 laps and were yellow, assuming
fronts were on the right side of the lcd.  Im also assuming yellow is worst
in F1C mods?  Ive looked but cant find a F1C tire heat/color chart anywhere.

Question:

I drive an Alfa so when Im in the setup screens is front and back reversed?
It shows a pic of a BMW (rear wheel drive).  How about the LCD in car?  Is
the front of an Alfa towards the right?  Maybe this is my problem, I think
I'm softening the front when actually softeneing the rear.

I think red or pink is worst.  I doubt that they have reversed the LCD
display, but if you want to make sure you can always check the tire temps in
the setup screen.

A very strange race, to say the least.

I had never practiced a pit stop, although I had made a mental note
of where the pit entrance was. How unusual that when those of us who
tried a refueling stop rolled into the pits, there was not a pit
board or pit crew to be seen. So, according to the standings when I
retired (the last to do so), I won the race.

Actually, I think Spud was out in front. He just tried his pit stop
-- and retired -- before I did. (Thanks for waiting for me, Spud.
Sorry I couldn't give you more entertainment value after your taking
the trouble to wait.)

Poor Neil had to hang around waiting for the rest of us to quit
before he could go out to the pub for a quick pint. What _did_ happen
to you, Neil? You were in the pits for the longest time. Forget to
set invulnerable on? I ran out of fingers and toes trying to keep
track of the number of times I hit walls.

Oh well...

No Darryl, I just crash a lot better than you. You are less skilled in this
respect, needing several attempts to end your race whereas the first time I
touch a wall I am able to put my car on it's roof and behind a wall at the
same time. Takes years of practice but you'll get the hang of it eventually
;)

I felt a bit guilty actually. I bogged off for something to eat and when I
returned you'd all quit. One day soon we'll get one of these things to go
off nicely. What idiot suggested Bathurst ;)

On that note, anyone have any ideas for next week's track as I'm not going
to compound my errors by repeating them.

Hey guys, Bathurst oozes with character but isn't conducive to a fun and
close door-handle-rubbing race. Howbout we do Brands Hatch GP next race?
It should make for very close lap times between us.

Or, here's a site with a list of tracks available for ETCC:

http://hsw.hu/etcc03tracks/etcc.htm

Either download from here or F1RST can install automatically for you. I
was going to suggest Chatham, (remember that great little hybrid
oval-roadcourse from SCGT?) but it won`t download from this site nor is
it available on F1RST... bummer.

Based on what seems to be popular lately on F1rst how about Laguna Seca?
Hard to find many other races and I really hate practicing alone.
