This is a frustrating track! I have yet to get even close to hitting
80% of the corners right on the same lap. And I seem to have a penchant
for eating tires. After about three laps, they are gone. Feels like I'm
just skating around on ice. I'm going to need about 15 pit stops for
new ***.

So far, my times are*** around in the 1:39 range. Every once in a
while I get a lap where I get maybe half the corners right -- on fresh
tires -- and I get into the high 1:38s. How is everyone else doing?
(Should I just hang around in the pits and chat up the pit babes
instead of wasting all that money on sets of new Goodyears?)

Im getting down to the 35-36's but like you Im literally eating tires.  Im
still confused by this front wheel drive car and its orientation on the LCD
and setup screens.   Is the front of the car reversed in the display?  Seems
no matter what I do the fronts just melt after 1-2 laps and the rears never
change from purple.  On other question, has anyone seen a heat chart for the
tires in F1C and its mods?  I would think red would be worst but its not.
Is yellow the highest temp?

In the setup screens, the wheel settings are close to the wheel to
which they apply. The topview shows the side mirrors -- if you can't
tell the front windscreen from the rear window -- and everything is
clearly indicated on the display. That seems pretty straightforward,
even for me.

But I see what you mean about the LCD view of the car. I had assumed
that the front of the car was on the left (where the transmission was
represented) and that the rear of the car was on the right (where
what I assumed to be the gas tank appeared).

However, by driving headlong into a wall, I managed to damage the
"gas tank", so I guess that rectangle is supposed to be the engine.
Which would make the front of the car (in the LCD view) the end on
the right. Exactly the reverse of the setup screens. That would mean
it is the front tires you are destroying (and me too).

The heat colurs seem to be purple (base temp), red, then yellow. By
yellow, I'm sliding all over the place. If there are "hotter" colours
possible, I sure don't want to know about them.

By the way, I never look at the LCD display. Too hard to see, for one
thing. I use the HUD to show me fuel, and I can feel the tires or any
other damage that might be causing a problem. That other stuff, like
water temps: that's for sissies! LOL!!

The rectangle on the right is the front wing, the rectangle on the
left is the rear wing, the bit in the middle is the engine.  The LCD
display is the same as it is for an F1 car.

I'm really, really sorry about this but I won't be able to make it this
afternoon - family problems. As there's not too many of us perhaps someone
else could host.

Have fun all and sorry again.

I can host today. As we won't like have very many people I'll open it up
to the general F1RST community. Laguna is too good to pass up... and we
can always race it again next week when Neil is back.

Cheers.

Total brain fade on my part. Too much time with the NASCAR sims, when
qualifying laps are counted separate from the out-lap. I ended up
crossing the finish line one too many times and I assume was DQ'd as
a result. Damn! Had a not bad starting position (as far as I could
tell at the time).

In my frustration, I hit the "Quit" icon and then compounded the
error by saying "yes" to the prompt. Too late to even stick around
and watch (or to verify that I was being DQ'd). When things go wrong,
things _really_ go wrong. I am _not_ going to try buying lottery
tickets today. <g>

You wouldn't have been DQ'd Darryl cuz the game was set for 12 qual
laps... even though I chose 3 laps in F1RST setup. As usual, we had a
few laps with some close racing, but then we got pretty spread out so
and not so great for the last 20 laps.

Sorry about opening it up to the others, but I didn't think we would
have enough guys to make it interesting. And, I wanted to test my new
connection (512k up, 3000k down) to see if I could host a field of 10,
but doesn't look like it. I think 8 is the max for this speed of
connection and 6 is much better. Once attrition dropped us down to 6, it
was silky smooth.

Cya,
Spud.

Thanks Spud for hosting.  One of these days Ill figure this sim out.
Finally got tires and they wouldnt give me any gas :)  I was going for a 2
stop race and after I came in on L10 I was outta gas.  Didnt even notice I
wasnt getting any till I was back on track.  Oh well this turned into a good
practice.

You were right about tire pressure.  A couple small adj really helps me save
my RF.

Just to satisfy my curiosity: did you raise or lower the tire
pressure to get better tire wear? I had to run laps in the 1:39-1:40
range to keep my RF tire from staying bright yellow. I could go
faster, but not if I wanted to do more than one or two laps.

Mitch, did you have the fuel setup in your strategy "page" of the
setup screens? If you only have the fuel set for a one-stopper, you
will get new tires when you come in, but no new fuel. I guessed at a
two stopper with 25 litres to start and at the first stop, and 30
litres at the second (last) stop just to give me a slight margin of
error on fuel.

I raised the RF to 190 from 188.  Next time Im goin to 189.  I had a orange
zebra stripe right down the middle of the tire flanked by red edges.

Yea I set the stategy for 2 stops at lap 10 and 20 and also used 25 litres.
I normally keep my LCD on the tires temp page, should I switch to fuel page
and adjust something?

I dunno. Sorry. I don't bother with the LCD screen in these cars --
too hard to see them, in my opinion. Others with sharper eyesight may
have no problem reading them.

But I've never had to do anything other than drive into my pit. I'll
have to experiement -- unless someone else knows the answer.

Even if you are only planning 1 stop,  go ahead and set up your
pit strategy for 3 stops.   Next in practice, watch your fuel usage.
I try and get a quick estimate for how many tenths of a gallon are
used per lap.
Finally if you do think you are going to run short, you can use the
lcd fuel screen to adjust.  I have 4 buttons mapped on my wheel, one
to change the lcd screen, one to scroll down each page and two to
increase or decrease.
Your right about those tiny lcd screens.  I always like the mods that
find a way to bring them closer.  Like using an electronics box.
Double finally, there is a line in your plr file that allows you to 'get
a push' from your pit crew if you run out of gas.

Pitcrew Push="1" // When out of fuel in pitlane, allows pitcrew to push car
(use throttle and gear selection to direct)
