new 3dfx V3 drivers - unstable?

by bweatherly1.. » Wed, 12 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I've been using  the new Voodoo 3 drivers
(v.1.05?) for about a week. They are definitely
faster than the old ones. However, they seem a
bit unstable on my system (V3 2000 pci, AMD K6-2

solid stable with card o/c'd to 170. New drivers
are VERY finicky about overclocking. Have dropped
o/c back to 160 and basically eliminated
freezeups, but even at default (143), seems
shakier than before. Probably shouldn't complain,
because I appreciate the increase in fps for N3,
NL, & GPL. I'm just curious, though, is it just
me or has anyone else noticed any problems? Is it
just the overclocking? Am I just paranoid? 8)

God bless & thanks in advance from a newbie to
this forum,
Bud W.

No problems at all here, but I'm not overclocking.

You're just paranoid.  :-)  Working just fine here.

I read that the 1.05 drivers have a color cycling bug.

I had to re-install the 1.04 drivers so ... ahem... Earth2150 didn't
crash.

new 3dfx V3 drivers - unstable?

Since going to the new drivers I've taken a (very) slight framerate hit in
GPL (-1fps) and N3 locks my system up every time I try to exit from the
credits screen, something it never did before.  The games work fine
otherwise and look no different.  While N3 seems to run a bit quicker, Viper
took a slight fps hit, according to the in-game benchmark.  Back to the
1.04.07's for me....

Thanks everyone for your opinions. New drivers seem to work well for
some people, crash for others. Wierd, HUH? Can anyone tell me where to
download the old (v.1.04) drivers from?

Thanks & God bless,
Bud W.
