New 3dfx Drivers (Quake III) for Voodoo2

by Allan Harriso » Sat, 15 May 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I downloaded 3dfx's Quake III voodoo2 drivers after hearing what a great affect they are having on Grand Prix Legends. When I installed the drivers I found that my frame rate had decreased from 36 frames per second to around 25 - 28 frames per second around Silverstone. I tried a few other tracks and I had the same situation. Does anyone know what would have cause my frame rates to drop.

Sys Specs:

Super Micro P6SBA Mainboard
P II 300
64 meg SDRAM
4 Meg S3 Virge
12 Meg Magic Voodoo2
Ess Tech. 1786 Sound Card

Thanks in advance,
Allan Harrison

Could be that the 2.56 Glide drivers aren't as fast as the 2.53 ones...
Could also be that the you may of had your Voodoo2 card overclocked and
since the Reference drivers don't allow you to overclock the cards it
probably reset them to default speeds?  Dunno, that last part may be a
stretch.

Try putting the Glide2.53.dll in your GPL directory and see if that gets
your framerate back.

Are you using George Smiley's Voodoo/Banshee patch?  I had slower
framerates w/new drivers until I applied it?
