GPL: Qualifying oddity?

by Graeme Nas » Mon, 09 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,

Today I decided to attempt a full 68 lap Grand Prix at Monza in GPL. In
the first qualifying session I recorded a time of 1m28.8 which I thought
would be good enough for pole position in the race.

Clark and Hill tried in several times in vain to improve their 1m29.2's
but they seemed to have no answer. It was going great for me until 20
minutes were left in the second session.

Then someone got a 1m28.2......

Who was this mysterious driver? Gurney? Brabham? Bandini? Hulme?

Oh no. It was Jochen Rindt in his Cooper/Coventry! His previous best was
a low 1m30 I believe, and it seems a bit odd to me that this guy in his
underpowered car could go over a second quicker than Mr. Jim Clark in
his much quicker Lotus.

Anyone else experienced slightly odd results?

Cheers!

I haven't had the same sort of experience because I mainly do on-line
racing and haven't really ever practiced/raced at Monza... (more like
South Africa, Mexico, Canada, Holland/Netherlands, America).

I was wondering, did you save a replay with his qualifying lap?  Is it
possible that he drafted someone for a chunk of the lap?

Just a thought...
cheers,
Gian.

The AI cars get better if you clock some really good times. But why
Rindt... I have no clue.

How was the race?
