N2 and Ensoniq Sound Card

N2 and Ensoniq Sound Card

by Jim Moor » Sun, 04 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I've seen bits and pieces of conversations regarding the problems with
N2 and the Ensoniq sound card. The sound works during the intro, but
dies in the sim. Would anyone with experience with it give me the
step-by-step solution?

A friend of mine just got N2 and has the problem. I am trying to work
with him over the phone.

Thanks,

Jim

What type of Ensoniq sound card?  If it's an AudioPCI, go to the Device
Manager and find the AudioPCI Legacy Device in Sound, video, and game
controllers.  Check its DOS app settings (a tab at the top); specifically,
get the port, irq, and dma of the SoundBlaster Pro emulation.  Now run the
N2 setup, select "SoundBlaster Stereo", and plug in the values.

I have to say I never would have bought a "non-Creative Labs" sound card,
but it came with a Gateway system and I figured I'd give it a shot.  To my
pleasant surprise it has been an excellent card: lots of features, sounds
great, and never had any compatibility problems!  I would certainly
consider it if I was buying a stand-alone card for an existing system.

Does Creative make a sound card that fits in a modern PCI slot?  I
need to get rid of my SB16/ISA and soon.

I have an Ensoniq Soundscape and it runs just fine with N2. Since
N2 is a DOS game you need to make sure you run SSINIT /I to
activate the card. I run N2 by doing a DOS re-boot ... Works fine
as does the "E".
