HELP--- no sound in N2 with Yamaha card

by Verne Harri » Tue, 02 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Hello group. My step-brother has installed N2 and after trying just
about every sound card option, we can still get no sound. He is
currently using a Yamaha OPL3-SA and has no problem with any other
games. I had no problem what so ever auto configuring mine. We're
baffled here. Can anyone help us with this? Is there some little
"thing" he is missing or should give a try?? Are there any tricks that
we can try?

        Thanks People

Hi, I am using the same card setup....
and instead of autodetecting sound...Just choose

SoundBlaster Stereo
Address 220
IRQ      5
DMA      1

of course, change the address, irq, and dma to suit your card
installation

your mileage may vary.... but mine also worked when setup as windows
sound system
and make sure you're using the correct sound drivers...
this setup is the only thing that gave me trouble when installing N2
it did it with three different cards that I have used...
but eventually, it will work

Make sure you are booting up to DOS and running through DOS as well.  I
have the Yamaha Sound system as well.  The game should auto-detect
Microsoft Sound System in DOS mode.

I install these every day at work,....great cards! Win95 is pretty
much cut and dry, but DOS may need seperate drivers. I know their are
two sets of drivers, one for Win95 and one for 3.11, I'll check today
to see if their are any for DOS.

I never have any problem with these, so I don't think think you have a
bad one. Sounds like a configuration issue. I'll post more tonight
when I find out.
