CPR Wheel config

by Dirk M » Wed, 08 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,
after many months I decided to give CPR another try.
But the steering is bad as it was months ago :).
Any tips how set up my GP1-Wheel (speed sensitive, non-linear-sttering
and null-zone)?  At the moment I use speed sensitive set at 50%,
non-linear-steering at 60% and no null-zone).
Thanks in advance
Dirk

I am using speed sensitive at 30%, Nonlinear at 10%, and Null Zone at Zero.
I'm not sure the settings will transfer from one wheel to another though. I
remember having different settings for my old wheel.

What definitely matters is the joystick/racing wheel option. One will work
better than the other for your controller. Try both. It's different for each
controller. Be sure to use "professional" skill setting. It's the best
physics. Also, 3Dfx is very important. As soon as I had frame rate my
controller woes halved. The Brake bias can be adjusted to make the brakes
less sensitive and Ctfj3 will bring you the rest of the way. Plus, they made
some errors in chassis limits and good setups mean the difference between
drifting and spinning without warning.

Sound like a hassle. It is. But I think it's way worth it in the end. The
game really has that "at the limit" feel and once you get it set up right,
can use all your best real life trick to pull it off.

If you need the 3Dfx dll or anything else feel free to email me and I will
send it to you. (Less than 60k it think.) Just remove 'us' twice from my
email address.

This is a brak bias setting in the game? I searched and searched and found
nothing like this. If you even slightly hit the brake pedal, the brakes lock
up.
Also the game has no concept of seperate controller axis for brake and gas.

The 3dfx dll for CPR adds nothing compared to the D3D rendering for
the 3dfx cards. At least it was true for my 12MB Voodoo2. Framerate
was not better and neither were the graphics or drawahead distance.

gas.

Yes, unfortunate on both counts. But one can be changed. Brake bias should
not only go fully rearward, but should be edited in the *.gar file _after_
the setup has been finalized. The *.gar file is a regular text file which
includes the line:
brakeProportioning
0.500000

I edit mine to:
brakeProportioning
0.350000

That's my starting point and I kinda feel it out from there. The reason for
finishing the setup first is that any editing you do to the file will be
returned to the default of 0.500000 if you edit and save it again. One thing
that's cool about CPR is that you can edit *.gar and *.ini files from within
the game because you just right click the file and say open with notepad
while in the garage. So it being a microsoft program isn't all
disadvantages. :-)

After that use a little Ctfj3 on it. The Ctjf3 utility is a god send and
really evens out the controller anomolies. Get it at
http://www.stickworks.com

I don't know what to say about that. Maybe the 20% gain I get over D3D is
because my little P233mmx really needs the help. Also, without trying to be
a smartass, might I suggest that you check to see if you've selected 3Dfx in
your graphics options.

Good luck getting it working. If enough people realise how good this game
really can be (if they care to do the rest of the work themselves) we may
end up with an online community. As bad as the AI are - human oppenents are
equally as good.

It could be. I have a P2-450 and saw absolutely no framerate difference.

Of course I selected 3dfx, how else would you think I would be checking it?
