Gpl & Voodoo 2

Hi Everybody,

Right now I have a 200mmx o/c to 225 with a Matrox Millennium video card
and the game play with GPL is very poor.  I was thinking of buying the A
Voodoo 2 video card to help matters.  Would the new voodoo card actually
help matters or should I just wait and buy a fast system later.

Thanks In Advance,

Ralph

I have the exact configuration you are talking about...Pentium 225 with
64 megs and a 12 meg Voodoo II card...I can run the demo at 800 x 600
and the thing flies...mind you there are no other cars around, so there
could be some slowdown in a full field. I have a feeling it will still
rock however.

Not only will a Voodoo2 card "help matters"....it will blow your ***y
socks off when it comes to providing excellent screen refresh rate in
GPL!! :o)

the code for gpl as well as icr2,n2 and n3 is optimized for rendition chip
based cards. the voodoo2 is great but i would look for a card based on the
rendition v2200 chip. of course 8meg ram is better than 4. the july issue of
computer shopper has a complete list of cards.
I use a hercules thriller 8 meg and it rips!

It's "optimised" for both.

As I understand it, the Voodoo 2 is optimized for running with Pentium 2
cpus, so I wouldn't expect much more improvement than you would get with a
standard Voodoo 1 3d card. If you intend to keep your current system for a
while, you might just try to get a Rendition or a Voodoo 1 card which I
believe you can get pretty cheap now.

Actually Voodoo 2 needs a fast CPU to be faster than Voodoo 1, so it doesn't
have to be a P2, a K6-2 is quite adequate. It's even as fast or faster than the
P2 at the same clock speed when the game supports 3DNow!, which Quake 2 does and
Unreal will, and I hope GPL will too.
