GPL & Voodoo 2 Problem.

by Racin Jaso » Thu, 29 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has seen a problem with GPL trying to get setup.
I have a PII 350 (Asus motherboard), 128Mb RAM, Canopus Pure 3D II (3dfx
voodoo 2 card), soundblaster LIVE!, Windows 98 SE etc etc.  When I install
the software and run it the first time it goes straight to the joystick
calibration screen and then locks up.  I have tried it with and without the
GPL 1.2 patch and still get the same results.  Last time I tried to get it
to work I ended up shelving the software and only just got around to looking
again.  I know of at least 3 other people that are having the same problem
and the common thing seems to be we are all running voodoo 2 cards.

Any ideas?

Jason,
I installed GPL on a similar setup with the same result, 300a OC to 450,
128Mb RAM, Creative V2 in SLI, Creative TNT 2 as primary Video card, SBLive
DX 7.0a and glide 2.53dll with the same problem as you have. The machine has
a MS FF wheel and locked up with the MS wheel software loaded and the V2
cards selected but didn't lock with the MS Software unloaded. It didn't lock
with the TNT card so I calibrated the wheel with the TNT card then switched
back to the V2's and its been fine. I'm going to load the new D3D patch on
the weekend..

Hope this is of some help...

Troy

Thanks for the advice.  I installed with defaulting to the software
rendering driver and everything calibrated ok.  I then switch back to the
3dfx card and everything is cool now.

Download the "Glide Driver fix 2.53" and extract the Glide2x.dll to
your GPL directory or download and install  the 2.56 drivers from
http://www.3dfx.com/

If that doesn't do the trick and you have a serial mouse or other
serial port device, add this to the [ Communications ] section of your
app.ini file.

disableDirectConnect = 1 ; Disable Direct Connect

You won't be able to race via null modem, but it should fix you up if
you have a pesky serial device.
