Hello
Have anyone else noticed that with almost everything at max. you can get
double frame rate if you look backwards compare to***pit view forward.
Okay I can understand a little difference but double?
This was measured with Fraps.

about 30 fps forward looking and 60+ backwards (B key)
Machine, own build:

128 Mb RAM
Asus 6800 Pure (Geforce DDR)

Probably because in the rear view the mirrors are (probably) not
displayed. That saves A LOT!

Also, the virtual***pit takes up a lot as well.  Change your view to the
front camera that doesn't have anything (nose etc), which is the same view
as looking backwards but forwards (duh :), and you'll see that same fps
boost.

Oh noooooooo......  The bumper cam vs. dashboard view.....  I know some
folks love the bumper cam, but for some, a real sim needs a proper
***pit/dash view....  What really bothers me about most of the "fixes"
for F1-2000 is that then generally lead to "less" of a sim (fewer
opponents, alter the grip of the track, don't use mirrors [turn your
head around instead], etc.).

F1-2000 seems more of a hacker's dream than a sim-pilot's dream.

It sure does!  Luckily, F1 2000 provides one
of the best :)

The same things speed up the frame rate in
every other sim too, though.  When GPL
first came out, I ran in 512x384 with 5
AI opponents, because that's all a K6-233
could manage.

The mirror problem is caused by the fact
that you can't turn off textures in the
mirror.  I don't even run in GPL today
with as much detail as F12K has on it's
lowest detail setting.  I sure hope ISI
will provide another lower detail setting.

I think I am changing my mind about lowering
the grip settings, too, because with lower
grip, there is no way you can go 20 laps in
a race.  Tire wear is modelled better in
F12K than in any sim I've ever seen.

I don't know.  I just ran my first 100%
length GP at Interlagos and it was one
of the most enjoyable offline races I've
ever had.  The only 'hack' I did was copy
my setup into the AI's directory - that
makes a lot of difference!

Oh, and by the way, it was at 1024x768,
with plenty of details turned on.  I did
leave the mirrors turned off.

How do you copy copy your setup into the AI's directory?

Thanks

> How do you copy copy your setup into the AI's directory?

It's a little convoluted.

The AI setups are in /F1 2000/Save, with
a .svm extension.  The only way I know
of to edit them is to copy one to the
/F1 2000/Save/Player (or your name)
directory.  When it's in that directory,
you can edit it like any other setup.  One
odd thing about it, though, is that the
7th gear has to be set to N/A.  After
you've edited it and saved it, copy it
back to the /F1 2000/Save directory.

One other file to edit is Game.gdb in
\F1 2000\Season00.  It tells the AI
what setup to use during qualifying,
and what to use during a race, for
every track.  Just open it up, look
toward the bottom, and you'll see how
it works.

Make a race setup with hard tires and
a full fuel load, and a qual setup with
soft tires and a small fuel load.  Then
copy those setups into the /F1 2000/Save
directory.  Enter the new setup file
names for each track in game.gdb, and
you're all set!

Fun, eh?  If anyone know a better way,
please tell us.

I'll disagree with that.  Having sit in a Formula One, let me tell you that
it's impossible that you can see that amount of tyres on both sides.  Your
vision is incredibly cut out by the***pit sides.  And Im 6 feet tall <g>

I wasn't talking about the 'view', I was talking
about the implementation of the***pit.  There
is no other 3D***pit available today except for
GPL (oh, wait, SODA has one too).  It is,
therefore, the second or third best***pit view
available today.

According to ISI, the parts of the car that
you see are the actual 3D model.  How do you
get more realistic than that?  My guess is
that they are using an inaccurate point
of view, and doing a fisheye effect, to give
the driver a better view of the track.
