N3: Spotter bugs?

by Mark Seer » Thu, 13 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I am a veteran of most road racing sims --- GP1, GP2,  Cart, GPL etc etc. It
has not been until recently that I have taken to running on ovals, firstly
with the GPL converted tracks and now N3. Having been beaten hands down in
N3 by my ignorance of the yellow flag rules, EG race till the finish line
and don't slow down when the yellow first comes out <doh> I have read up and
now don't get lapped any more as a result.

I was racing last night when a Yellow came out. This was about 15 laps from
the end of a full distance race. I dived into the pits for a splash and go
and as I emerged, a familliar voice shouted "Stay behind the 113 car"
I slowed to let the 113 car by. Car 113 slowed as well. "Stay behind the 113
car" I slowed evern further and dropped into 1st gear. "Stay behind the 113
car". I stopped on the inside apron and the 113 car stopped behind me and
started doing a tail shuffle. "Just let him Baah". "Gren flag Green flag"
Sod this, I'm off you***head methinks. As I pass the startline, having
already lost 3/4 of a lap to the leader I hear the immortal words. "Oh maan.
They gave you the black flag for passing under yellow"!

Is this a known issue with NASCAR sims and if so, is there a patch to deal
with it? This is not the first time it's happened and it's really
frustrating me.

Yup.  Well known NASCAR bug, still left around from previous versions.
Don't think the beta patch does anything for it (I've been waiting for
the final patch before firing it up again).  Do you also have
double-file restarts enabled?  I find many more yellow flag related
problems with double-file restarts enabled.  Good Luck!

Yeah, when you slow down and the car behind you refuses to pass, go up
HIGH on the track - not the infield.  If he doesn't pass you quickly, turn
around and get behind him.  Single file restarts won't stop this problem.

Just for general info purposes the yellow flag probs with the lappers NOT
moving up on the inside line and causing the cars on the outside line to get
the black flaggged is no more with the beta patches.

N3: Spotter bugs?

Dumb Question from a newbie:  I bought the commercial version of N3.
Are any of the patches applicable to this version, or just for the beta?

The last beta has become the official patch.  V1204 for cars.  NL also
has a similar patch,  the truck patch merely updates the truck code to
match N3 it is 1214 and hasn't quite cleared Sierra testing yet.
