I76 3dfx patch question.

Fellow Racers-
I seem to be really stuck with a 3dfx patch install problem in
Interstate76. I did the game install and ran the program, everything
worked just fine. I then downloaded the patch from Activision and
followed the directions. Nothing but black screen when I try and run the
D3D version from the game menu. Activision's site says to use the latest
drivers, etc, I already have all that good stuff installed.
Here's the real rub- I tried deleting the whole thing from the program
start menu and reinstalling over a clean copy, the install for the patch
says the game is already patched and aborts the install!
Where in the heck is the hidden file or files that tells the patch the
version of the game? Now I'm stuck playing in regular svga and I sure
would like to see the 3dfx graphics.
My system is a P2/266, 128M ram and both Intergraph Intense 3d 100
Verite card and Orchid Righteous 3d. Any fellow racing fan out there
that can point me in the right direction? I hate to admit it but this is
the very first 3dfx patch I have ever had this much trouble with. Please
respond to the group but by all means shoot me an e-mail too because I
can't always spend as much time reading the group as I would like to.
Thanks, all the best, Mike Davis
