I76 D3D beta patch

by Richard A. Ishid » Thu, 26 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Has anyone tried the I76 D3D beta patch floating around the Web? I just
downloaded it -4.8 megs- but would have to reinstall I76 to check it
out. If anyone has tried it, please post a mini-review. If you don't
know what I'm talking about, then please disregard this post. This is
not a bad joke (I hope) and I won't give out the URL for the patch since
it'll probably get swamped. Besides, it'll either be gone soon, it'll be
mirrored elsewhere or the actual I76 D3D patch will be released. If it's
uncool, then you'll save me the time to reinstall I76. I just deleted it
this week. Talk about your bad timing. :(

OK, I reinstalled I76 and installed the D3D patch (man, I hope I'm not
pissing anyone off) and ran the game. I didn't see a sky and the weapons
and other display panels were unreadable but it looks cool! :) For
anyone that flamed the guys at Activision for taking so long I say
"shame on you!" When this patch is fixed and released it'll be worth
reinstalling the game. Good job (man, I really hope I'm not pissing
anyone off) :)

Me too, it would also help if they updated their web site so one would
know they are still working on it (or not)

I have the patch and it well......sucks.
The framerate was not higher and the graphics were a little better.

I hope the final patch will be better,

Speaking of this... I was wondering... is I76 as slow as it seems to me? I
have looked at it in 2 systems: Pentium MMX 200 Mhz, 32 Mb RAM, S3 Virge
card and K6 200 MHz, 16 Mb and Mystique. It crawls....

Take care,
Paco

What kind of 3d card do you have? On my P200/Monster 3D the
frame-rates were at least 5 times better with the D3D patch. For the
first time the game is playable at 640x480 (all details on).

With my P166 and Orchid Righteous 3D my frame rate seems to have at least
tripled to the 15 - 20 fps range. This patch has made the game playable
for me.

I think the S3 Virge and the Matrox Mistake.. er.. Mystique were the problem.
Niether one are very good 3D cards regardless of what CPU they are used with.
None of the games I have seen using those cards has impressed me in the least.

Yeah it is pretty slow (on my P200) without D3D - you need a 3dfx my
friend.

The one that's out now is just for 3DFX.The rendition one will be out in
about a week. That's what Activision says anyway.Wouldn't bet on it though.

It would appear that you need a fast CPU *and* a 3dfx card.  My measly
P100 can't achieve very fast frame rates, even with the patch and my
Righteous 3D with the newest drivers.

Sigh.  I guess the inevitable has occurred.  It's time to upgrade my
CPU.

Anyone know of a good (read: cost effective) path to take from a P100
up to a higher ground?  I have an Acer system (gag)...

For Activision games, yes. Activision is Intel's best friend!

I have p133 and 3dblaster, and it runs fine really with everything. Incar
is a bit on edge of being jerky.
