Race fans and fellow G-200 lunatics;
I found the GPL D3D patch for the G-200 on the Matrox site. The patch
date is the 8th and size is only like 53megs. I can't wait to get home and
try it. Looks like the rumors were true after all <ggg.>
    All the best, Mike

Mike,

Surely you're kidding here, or have missed a decimal point.  A file size of
53 megs should not be given the tag of "only".  That is a huge file that
with a 56k modem would take hours and hours to download.

You must mean 5.3 megs.

Well other than its only 53k and its done by Matrox, not by Papyrus....I'd
be skeptical.

First of all, its 53 kb, not 53 Mb (which would explain your use of the word
"only". )

Secondly, I didn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes!!! (I still
wont believe it till I hear it actually works , or I get home and try it . )

Now all we need is VROC and this newsgroup will be very quiet for a while!!!

Actually, it is only 53K!  Yes, the download took less time than finding my
download directory in the dialog box.  I kid you not.  I haven't had a
chance to try it yet but it is there.  You'll find it at
ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/games/patches/gpl_g200v01.zip

ah yes, i recall that episode ;)
since we'd rather not think of Papyrus doing the *** thing,
i'll suggest a nice, logical solution: it's a 3rd party patch for
the game, written by Matrox, not Papyrus (quote from readme: "All
support issues over the MGA-G200 and this patch are to be directed to
the Matrox Technical Support department"), therefore it's not up
to Papyrus to announce, but Matrox instead. It's currently a very
early version with glitches ("This is version 01 of the patch and
therefore is still experiencing minor glitches"), thus Matrox have
not yet made a major announcement, just a minor one...

Did you notice in the readme file that the Matrox patch uses DX6?
That's all this patch is, a DX6 patch for GPL.  Matrox just happens to
be the first to release it to its users.

yep, i saw that. Just because a piece of software requires DX6 does
not mean it's using the Direct3D side of it. DX supplies a lot of
other functionality too.
