What gfx card?! Please! I'm ready to upgrade from my V3, and GPL was
just about the only thing keeping me on Glide...

Todd Wasson :-)
With Glide I get:
22/30/36
With D3D I get:
17/28/36
I am running a PII 400 96MB RAM V3 3500 with 75% bias and lightings off...at
Mosport from the back of a full field my numbers were:
Glide:
25/20/36
D3D:
25/22/36
Both about the same...you gotta figure there musta been some more smoke in 1
start than another...I wish there was a GeForce 2 w/ a TV tuner right about
now!

System: PII400, 128MB, SB Live Value, LWFF USB
V3 2000, Driver 4.1201.0565 05/26/2000
GPL:
All Sounds
Mirrors set to Cars Only
Trackside Objects to Full
Rouen, Mid Pack Qualifying
800x600
In-Car
Driver's Arms Off
Detail Slider Set to Full Right:
Glide:
21/15/36
D3D:
16/11/36
Detail Slider Set to 1/2:
Glide:
31/21/36
D3D:
27/16/36
Toggling arms on only dropped the framerate about 1-2 fps.
So far, Glide still seems to be the best option on this machine.

Hi!
I tried it and must say that it looks better than Glide. And in comparison to Glide there is only a very small fps-hit at the start of a race. I tested with 1024x768, full eye-candy, detail slider full to the right, race start with 19 AI at Monaco from the last stall, doing nothing but staring at the frame counter ;). Framerates read as follows:
Lowest integer until flag drops/Lowest integer during AI in sight/Highest integer before beeing dropped from the race.
With Glide I get:
22/30/36
With D3D I get:
17/28/36
I'm thinking about a change ;)).
Oh well, here's my system specs: Athlon 600 on Asus K7M, 128 MB SDRAM, V3-3000, SB Live! and some other stuff. Nothing oc'd.
HTH!

I actually found things better with D3D than Glide with my V3 2000 using the
latest full drivers from 3dfx. I got an improved framerate and a problem
which I had been having since connecting a Force RS with framerate jitter
seems to be gone with D3D. I can set the detail bias quite a bit further to
the right with no loss of framerate. The mirrors are better too. The only
difference I can detect is that there seems to be a bit more mip mapping
going on. Anyway, give it a try. You can always go abck to Glide if you
don't like it.
Cheers
Phil
