N4 graphic settings question

by Robert G Newberr » Fri, 16 Feb 2001 15:41:36

A couple of quick questions for everybody, can somebody please tell me
the difference between the Geforce2 Pro setting and the Geforce2 Pro
[TnL HAL]when selecting your adaptor for the game. Which should I use, I
have P3 500, 128 Ram, and a Geforce2 Pro DDR 32 meg ELSA Gladiac card.
Also, I have seen posts about disabling V-sync to improve frame rate. Is
this for Open GL only and does it need to be done in an .ini file or
just in your card setting tabs. Any other frame rate tips would be
welcome. I'm pulling 20-25 with 8 ahead and 1024x768x16 with most stuff
turned way down. Open GL and D3D seem about the same for framerate.
Thanks, Bob N.

You should always choose the TnL HAL option. It uses the GF2's Transform &
Lighting capabilities to unload some of the graphics processing from the CPU to
the graphics card (I think ;). OpenGL will automatically detect the presence of
TnL and use it accordingly.

VSync can and should be turned off in both GL and D3D modes. Go to VoodooExtreme
or some other site like that and find a little utility called "NVMax". It'll
allow you to easily customize all the features of your GF2.
