N4, best V5 settings? 3dfx Tools settings?

by R Keatin » Tue, 10 Jul 2001 00:34:19

I've seen Tom Pabst's write up on setting up the GeForce 2 for maximum video
performance.  Are there some similar tweaks/tips for the VooDoo 5 card that
anyone can recommend?

I am running N4 in in D3D (OpenGL frame rate is currently much slower for me
than D3D) and I use the generic V5 setup as found in 3dfx Tools.

Thanks,
Russell

while not sim-racing specific, the tweeks over at voodoosource.net should
get you headed in the proper direction

Dave,

Thanks for the link. I made a few changes and also flashed the bios on the
V5, but it is difficult to tell if anything changed.  At least I'll say
there were no dramatic changes. I'll just keep playing around with settings.

By the way, who could possible use OpenGL over D3D in N4?  In a case where
D3D gives me 35fps, OpenGL gives me 5.  Is this normal?

That is normal.  Use D3D for N4 :)

Dave,

I found it in the site you recommended that I take a look.  Specifically
at::
http://www.voodoosource.net/3dfx/bios.shtml

I had version 1.06 so I flashed to 1.18.  I don't know what changed but I
figured why not have the latest.  There are also bios versions that have
been modified, but I steered away from them.
