Time Warp: Burnout and Thriller 8mb PCI

I just picked up a copy of the original Burnout drag racing game and I
have a 8mb Hercules Thriller card.  The graphics (software) are awful.
I know that Burnout only has hardware acceleration for 3dfx.  Are
there any work-arounds I can use to improve the graphics?  There is a
fair amount of screen garbage (previous images on screen do not
disappear).  

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks a bunch.

The graphics are awful with a 3dfx card, too.  The game is just plain ugly.

There was only support for the 3dfx card. The graphics are alot better in 3dfx than software mode. Not the greatest but were good.
