Thriller 3D: 4MB vs 8MB

by Scott Willingh » Wed, 21 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I am going to purchase a Hercules Thriller 3D Rendition card in the near
future.  However, I'm not sure wether to spring for the 8MB version over
the 4MB (about $100 price difference).  While the added video in/out
features would be nice, that doesn't sway my opinion much.  What I
would like to know is how the added memory would be advantageous for me.
I am interested in driving sims only (and currently only Papyrus titles:
N2, Soda, GPL, N3).  My guess is that the extra memory will not buy
much for N2.  Can anyone comment on how much performance I am likely to
suffer in the near future for sims like GPL or N3?

Thanks for any comments.

For a hundred bucks difference, I'd say go for the 8Mb. Memory is the key to
speed!!!

Scott,

I bought my Thriller 8 meg last week and absolutely LOVE it!! I have made a
few posts about it in this NG that you may have seen. :-)  Here is a review
of the card and some info about your 4 meg vs. 8 meg dilemma:
