Thriller 3d 4mb PCI, what diver, software, bios to use ?

by Tilu » Fri, 02 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hello !

I picked up a 4mb Thriller 3d PCI version, and sold my ASUS TNT.
I want to use this card to play GPL until the new V3/TNT2 arrives.

What drivers/bios/utils to use ?
Can someone make some quick instructions ?
Hercules drivers are old:

Windows 95/98 driver Version 0.85.3596 (June 30th, 1998; 1.71MB)
TH3DW085.EXE
NOTE: This driver release requires Thriller 3D BIOS version 1.04.141 or
later for proper operation. Download and update your BIOS (see below) before
installing this release!

BUT

Thriller 3D BIOS Version 1.04.141 (March 26, 1998; 279K)
For 8MB PCI & AGP models: thb141_8.exe

It is for 8mb only !
where is the 4mb version ?

I have also been to www.rendition.com, and they have new drivers, beta
drivers, full openGL ICD ect.
Is it better to use rendition reference drivers ?

Thanks for the help !

You don't need the BIOS update for your card. The update was only for the
8mb cards which have the TV in/out feature. The update was issued to fix
screen resolution when using the TV out. Otherwise, both cards work fine.

I use the full OpenGL ICD for Quake and Half Life. For betas they are very
stable. I also tried their beta reference drivers with the Full OpenGL ICD
integrated into the driver, and found them to be very buggy. I'd stay away
from them for now until they make some serious fixes. The other reference
drivers work well, but it's always best to use you card manufacturers
drivers since the are optimized for that particular card to support all of
it features.

Anytime.
