4MB Thriller 3D upgradeable to 8MB?

by Deepwoo » Fri, 17 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Hello,

I'm considering buying a 4MB Thriller 3D card.  I'm mostly interested
in playing Nascar 2 and ICR 2 in rendition mode.  Does anybody know if
getting the 4MB version will affect performance very much and also if
it is upgradeable to 8MB?

Thanks

Rick

When I asked about affecting performance I meant when compared to an 8MB
Thriller.  In other words is there any performance hit in the 4MB version
when compared to the 8MB version?

Thanks

Rick

The 4MB cannot be upgraded to 8MB.  Typically, the 8MB provides the
capability to use higher resolutions and/or number of colors, and the
amount of textures that can be stored in memory.  Otherwise, most
everything I've read indicates they have very similar performance.
I personally own the 4MB version and have been very pleased.

4MB Thriller 3D upgradeable to 8MB?

My 4mb Thriller works great, 30 fps with all graphics on.
The extra 4mb and TV output wasn't worth the extra money. The TV output
wasn't rated that good and Nascar2 only runs at 640 x 480.
When Nascar3 comes out, I'll probably buy a Monster II for the 3dfx, if
it supports it.
