64mb

Previous to today I had:
1xVoodoo2: Gave me (with my current GFX settings) 36fps which hopped to 37
now and then.

Now I have:
2xVoodoo2 in SLI: Gives me (with SAME GFX as above) 36fps, but when AI cars
(or online HUMAN cars) are close frame rate drops to 25fps.

Now before you start this is nothing to do with 1.1, it is to do with the
voodoo2, so leave Randy Cassidy alone.

For an example of where this happens, Monaco the last turn, I round the
corner, then when I am accelarating away, there are of course tonns of AI
heading into the corner I just left, in my view, on the right, the FPS takes
a DIVE down to 25 FPS, it doesn't zig zag up and down either, it stays
steady AT 25fps, someone help, please.

Someone has just generously sold me this and I don't wanna have to send it
back.

this looks like the driver-installation for the 2nd card enabled the
'synchronize on v-sync' - check this in your display-settings!

when you have the diplay-settings-setup-window, click Voodoo2 or Monster
3D2 or whatever switches to your V2-settings, then click 'advanced' and
there is an option like "don't sync every frame" or "sync on v-sync" or
whatever it is with your card - you should check or uncheck this option
so that the cards do NOT sync on v-sync (i.e. they should NOT sync every
frame).

No such option on my system either... 3Dfx reference drivers.

I don't know about the reference drivers (I use 2 guillemot maxi gamer
3D2 with their drivers), but I think that the environment variables
still work with V2 - so use a batch and place a line before starting
your game - autoexec.bat might work as well (at least with win95 it did
...):

        SET SST_SWAP_EN_WAIT_ON_VSYNC=0

another option is getting the voodoo2-overclocking tool that places
itself in the display options (don't ask me for a URL though ...) - this
has a slider for adjusting the core-frequency for both direct3d and
glide plus a checkbox for synching on vsync each.

Remember: turn on No VSyncing for both Glide and D3D; there are 2
vsync options in my panel.

thanks... yeah, 3dfx drivers install glideenv.bat with that kind of settings
in it, which is then called from autoexec.bat. I was looking all over for my
documentation on the environment variables, but you saved me the effort.

For Voodoo2, the 2.56 reference drivers from 3Dfx contained a .dll
that is used in Display properties (right mouse click your display,
select Properties). Where the screensaver and settings are.
I have a Voodoo2 page in that dialog, and an advanced button with
these settings.

I had this problem as well with a V2 SLI setup. I solved it by installing
the Banshee/V3 glide patch from The Fast Lane. In this is a utility for
altering the refresh rate of your cars mirror's. Turning the mirror refresh
to once every other frame gives you a lot of fps back, especially at
circuits like Monaco.

If you are using the newest 3dfx drivers they do not have the v/sync
option in the advanced settings.  I have a .dll file from 3dfx that
you can place in your c:\windows\system and it will place the v/sync
option on the advanced page.  I will post a zip file called
"win9x_cp.zip" at alt.binaries.simulators.autos.
