GPL and Voodoo2 SLI...Uhhhh....yuck...

Just popped in GPL on the V2 SLI P448 rig and yeah it FLIES.  Monaco
gives me around 28-36fps 10x7 with all details and a full race field.  But
I've noticed that the smoke and "translucent" hazy things within the sim are
patchy-looking...Like a checkerboard pattern within the smoke.  Real ugly.
(Come to think of it all games with translucency have this banding or patchy
look)

I know I'm being real picky with a sweet framerate but I was just
wondering if ALL Voodoo2's (Pure3D2) looked like this.

Don't get me wrong though, this is, without a doubt, the most incredible
driving experience I have EVER had on the PC.  And the rearview mirrors..Oh
my GAWD...how real does THAT look....vibratin around...cars dancin back and
forth...I actully turned around to look tonight - no lie.  (Yeah I spend too
much time in front of the thing, I know...)

Well, back to the Ring -

Yeah, I see that in most of my 3Dfx games that use that effect for smoke
(i.e. unlike N2's animation).  Don't know why it does that, but I kinda
pretend it's the intricacies (sp?) of a cloud of tiresmoke that cannot be
rendered in 2D.

Yeah, I know the feeling...I accidentally turned on the Cruise Control in my
Neon today.  I was trying to use my ThrustMaster's buttons to look left!
I've also heard stories about stickshift guys that won't use the clutch now
in their real cars, because you don't in GPL.  Anyone in my family will tell
you how annoyed they get when I weave from side to side, warming my tires as
I approach a traffic light.  One wonders what the Papyrus guys do on the way
home from work (getting home, and rushing to their PC to see a replay of
that pass they made on the expressway...).
