GPL- SLI or not SLI

GPL- SLI or not SLI

A quick report on my tests this pm of the SLI config.

System: PII 416Mhz (P333 at 83Mhz), BX m/board, 96Mb 10ns SDRAM, Monster
Voodoo 2 8Mb, reference RC1 drivers.

I have just tried adding a second Voodoo 2 (FYI 12Mb - no problems ). I
presently run with all graphics on, detail slider at 60ish percent, 13
opponents and the 9 something x 7 something resolution. The second Voodoo
proved a big help at Monaco and in other graphic-intensive situations
(middle of the pack etc. ). Not surprisingly, it also allowed higher
resolutions without a significant hit to the performance. However,
increasing the number of opponents from 13 to 19 virtually halved the frame
rate. Worth doing? Until I've tried a cpu running at 500+ Mhz I won't know
because, given that you have to chose, it may be that a 20% increase in
computing power is a better spend. I don't know at this point. If anyone can
take this further, please do it.

GPL- SLI or not SLI

I'm thinking of running two Voodoo II's (12mb) in SLI mode,, on a
CeleronA 300 (at 450) and all I've read here in the newsgroup about
the difference between one VII and SLI on GPL,, well lets just say it
is'nt exactly conclusive. Like John here, I am wondering what the real
deal is. Thanks!

I've now added a second board. The benefits are as previously noted. The
point is that SLI helps a lot when the going gets tough but cannot make up
for shortcomings in your CPU. As you're within 10% of the maximum available
CPU power (I don't know of anyone claiming a stable >500Mhz) you should go
SLI. The new pricing helps as well!
