SLI mode and GPL

With the dramatic decrease in price in VooDoo2 cards  2 12 megs for
$229  I was wondering how GPL would  benefit via the increase over a 8
meg Voodoo2 card ? Would I see a big increase in higher resolutions in
fps.  I am not interested in eye-candy per se but it is so much easier
to driver when you can see further down the track clearly.

I have a PII 300 with 96K ram L2512 cache and a Voodoo2 card.  I tried linking
two Voodoo2 cards via SLI and it actually decreased my FPS rate in GPL
slightly. :(

This is probably related to the fact that the 3dfx drivers actually
underclock both cards by 5Mhz from the registry value when in SLI
mode. Apparently, about 1% of the cards displayed stability problems
in SLI, so that was 3dfx's "fix"

This was recently discovered by Creative Labs and discussed in the
voodoo2 newsgroup on the 3dfx news server and at
www.voodooextreme.com.

I also had SLI decrease performance on my Celeron 448MHz and SLI Creative Labs
V2s clocked at 90MHz.  With one I ran 36 fps, by myself at 640 x 480 with 19 AI
cars.  When I enabled SLI that I never went over 30 fps.  I thought it was a
bug in GPL but maybe it's a 3Dfx driver issue.

Don't look for SLI to help with GPL, get a bigger CPU not another V2.

By the way, my Genoa V-Raptor 4MB AGP is faster and smoother than either 3Dfx
combination at 640 x 480 with GPL.  Papyrus definitely wrote for Rendition
first then made it work with 3Dfx.

I don't think so.  I run 85Hz refresh.  Only change is check mark disable SLI
in 3Dfx advanced settings.  I think 36 frames is max no matter your refresh
rate.

I have answered all your question truthfully, honestly, and to the best of my
ability.  I never , never, ever, had SLI running more than 30 frames per second
in GPL.
