Make sure all driver names in the game contain at least a first name
and a last name seperated by a space.

2 possibilities :
1) get the patch (easiest way imho), install it & everything should work
2)
- delete the cfg-file
- restart GP4 (should work now)
- setup every device except the controller
- exit gp4 (save Changes !)
- restart GP4
- setup controller
- on exiting GP4 never save the changes
You'll have to setup the controller every time now...
Better go & get the patch guys...
Hope this helped...
Whenever I tried to play, game would crash to desktop (with the familiar
error message GP4 has encounter a problem and will be shut down) after
10-15 minutes of play (sometimes even less!). But that was not all: 9 out
of 10 times computer would stall whenever I tried to see a Replay, and I
had to restart Windows XP by hardware! Note that I have never rename any
driver name!
Well, I found the simplest way to run the game stable as a rock! And the
solution is this: Do not skip the introductions! As simple as that! Just
be patient a few seconds, dont press any key to bypass Microprose or
GP4 intros, let the game guide you to the main menu and play by the
hours!!!
I found this by chance! I wanted to show the game to a friend of mine and
he asked me to let him see the intro before we would play. And so I did.
The thing is that a moment ago I warned him that unfortunately my best
game would crash after a while, but what a hell It was worth it. Well,
the game never crashed, and it didnt ever crashed again by just playing
both 2 intros.
Since then I play by the hours, I watch Replays, I play other circuits
after Im bored with one, I watch new Replays, and I play and play and
play!!! Before this, I couldnt even dream of something like that!
Please let me know if this works for you, too.
Good luck.
p.s. It a GREAT game, isnt it?
