I've bought the full version of TOCA but don't seem to be getting to use the
3dfx on my orchid righteous, it seems to be using it for Direct3D only, I
think this because the graphics aren't nearly as good as F1RS. Any ideas?

2 possibilities IMO:

1. You are using 3dfx reference drivers - TOCA will not use 3dfx with these
drivers (check options, graphics, display device - it will show you at the
bottom if it using the righteous card, probably device 2)

2. The graphics aren't as good as F1RS - even with 3dfx support. Still a
blast though.

Cheers

Even though I was disappointed by the demo, I've bought TOCA as an Xmas
present for my brother. After some extensive previewing I'm -- if anything
-- even *more* disappointed. But only because this game would have made
one hell of a sim :-)

Multiplayer must be a barrel of laffs though, and I see it can do a
multiplayer install on a machine without the CD. Nice touch.

I hope codemasters do well out of this and are encouraged to do a TC2 with
a complete driving model. It's about time Nascar had some stiff
competition.

I totally agree, as it stands it is one outstanding game and I wouldn't
hesitate in recommending it to anyone who was an interest in racing
games.

It's just a pity them seem to have written it for the Playstation market
and not for PC's, as there seems to be an excellent simulation model
underneath
there, it's just it's wrapped up an an arcade game, shame.

TOCA is a good game, but as you say it was written with the
playstation as the main machine.
After seeing 3Dfx graphics in NFS2SE is definately looks poor

Also the computer drivers love slamming into the side of you

There is a healthy arcade racing market for PCs too - especially for a
game like this that has a realistic driving model. I'll be buying it
the minute it comes out over here.

Heh, you're right. I have no complaint about the "roughness" of the
opposition. TC isn't a gentleman's sport from what I've seen... I've
already learned to hate Audi drivers in the sim (just like the real thing
;-)

One thing that's really bugging me though is my inability to accelerate
away from the start as well as the others. I've logged a lot of sim hours
and I don't rate myself as completely cr*p, but even the slowest cars seem
to have more acceleration than me... though so far I've only tried the
Renault.

Oh, and the graphics are, indeed, pretty poor compared to what's possible
with 3d acceleration. Essentially it looks (just like the majority of d3d
titles) like a good software only version. This doesn't really bother me,
it's sim quality that concerns me far more.

Mmm... realistic isn't the word I'd use. It does a good impression of
realism, but it's no Nascar in the realism stakes... there isn't even a
realistic damage option.

Still, as I've said, good game.

I've found the same, though I think the Audi's 4-wheel drive gives you
better traction for the standing starts.

Pretty poor????  For me it was a complete revelation!  I assume you're
not playing it with a 3dfx card?

I bought an Orchid Righteous just to play this sim, having driven the
demo in software-rendering mode.  I nearly fell off my chair when I ran
the demo on the 3dfx card - silky smooth framerate & beautiful graphics
in high-res mode.  Maybe I'll become more jaded the more 3dfx titles I
play, but for the moment this is a complete feast for the eyes, even if
it's not a *** simulator.

Hi the look of Toca is what got me going too! Im using a STB Velocity 128
w/AGP and I was blown away by the flybys of the airliners.Btw Im not a
eyecandy junkie as the flight sim I fly daily is SU-27 but man I was so
impressed by the look and feel of TOCA now Im hooked. Aloha, Mike

No, I'm fully 3dfx'd, but as this game is D3D it can't compete graphically
with a pure 3dfx port. Ok, it's good (reflections etc) but -- to my eyes
-- it has the look of software rather than 3d hardware about it. Try
Quake2 or UbiF1 and you'll know what I mean :-)

I found that if you have full revs when the lights go to green you
take off slightly slower than the other cars.
If you make sure you have only half revs or maybe even no revs at
all as the lights go to green, you will get a much better start and be
able to pass quite a few cars on the start/finish straight. Its all
about anticipating the green lights! :o)

I thought TOCA had a special 3Dfx port !
