M-Tech R534 & Verite DMA

M-Tech R534 & Verite DMA

by Chuck Cair » Sun, 05 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Hi,
I'm very interested in the M-Tech R534  motherboard with a Rendition
Verite' based 3D video card. There have been problems reported getting
the busmaster DMA to function correctly with the Verite' based cards.

Has anyone on the net gotten a Verite' based card ( Intense-3D, Reactor,
Screamin-3D, 3D-Blaster, Total-3D, ?) to run with DMA?  The test is often
that indyfast.bat will run and or the results of DMADIAG.

Thanks a lot,

I got the M-Tech R533 and bus-mastering works fine. On mine, with
Award BIOS 4.51pg, there are no settings for PCI latency - so you
can't tweak the DMA scores. From what I can tell - having
bus-mastering at all is far more important that the actual rate, so
I'm not sure I'd change from the defaults anyway. The DMA rate does
have an impact - but not nearly as much as having bus-mastering to
start with. When I changed MB/BIOS, my DMA went from 11 MB/sec to 70
MB/sec - and virtually no change in fps, except Duke3D (???). VQuake,
ICR2, and TR (apparently) stayed the same.

The R534, being a newer MB, may allow for this. I'm not sure if
this is a function of the Bios, the MB, or some combination.

I hope you don't mean a Rendition card with that specific MB.
Nonetheless, I have run Inydfast and DMAtest with my Rendition
(Screamin' 3D).  Also, on Nascar2, Renddma runs without a hitch.

I'm not sure I understand... how could he mean anything different?
I mean, the Subject is "M-Tech R534 & Verite DMA." I feel like I'm
missing a joke here. Won't be the first time... I didn't recognize
what an "Alpine 7825" was until someone explained it.

The MTech R534 uses SiS chipset and is quite different than the R533.
I had a Creative 3D Blaster (Verite) and DMA did not work. For me this
turned out to be a GOOD thing. I bought the Diamond M3D and haven't
been disappointed (actually quite elated!). I tried to get an Orchid
3D, but after waiting over three weeks, I cancelled and got the M3D
overnight - in time for Xmas vacation.

I meant Verite card with DMA in the MTech R534 motherboard.
Sorry for any confusion!
Thanks again! Hope to hear from someone who has it working successfully!
