Need recomendation: ToCa2, SportscarGt, or MGP2?

by Carl Ribbeg?rd » Sat, 15 May 1999 04:00:00

I have ColinMcRae, NFS3, GP2 and F1rs.
I would like to have a _simulation_ with touringcars.
What I want is, good physics, nice instrumentation (always drives with
dash), and a chance to stay on track after scratching another car.
ColinMcRae is Nice, but the Multiplayer is not that good. Maybe because it's
rally.. Also I like tarmac racetracks better.
NFS3 is way too childish. The amount of 3'rd party addons is very impressive
thou, and I think that is certainly a plus.

SportscarGt is a EA game, so does anybody know if it is possible to mix NFS3
cars and SportscarGt cars?

GP2 is a very nice game. One of the best. F1RS also.
Too bad it's so hard to relate to an F1 racer. It would be nice to drive a
Volvo or a BMW or such.
I must also say, I like F1RS feeling of speed. It really feels like fast
driving.

So, any recomendations.
ToCa2, SportscarGt, or MGP2?

Thanks!

Definitely SCGT. Go to this site and get the demo, the full version runs much
better though
http://www.racesimcentral.net/***.com/    When you get the full version get the patches
and editors

You could probably find Toca (1) at discount bargain prices, I've seen it
for as cheap as $10! So perhaps go for both?

If your into "Touring Cars" like BTCC or likewise  ToCA is the way to go,
although SCGT is much more varied and seems to already have several hacks
and editors available, and I would imagine it won't be long before folks
start creating cars / car sets that will be available for download.

Also you could pick up ICR2/Cart Racing and get the Touring car set/patch
from "the pits" website www.theuspits.com, again this can probably be found
in the bargain bin's for $10.

Good luck!

i would certainly recommend TOCA2 - though you need a decent  machine.
Or wait for Official Formula One from EA (again) - looks good and they
say you don't need a high spec machine.  There is a demo out.

I haven't checked lately, go to the site I mentioned. I actually took it
back because the physics and ai suck in comparison to GPL. It is a great
sim in it's own right.

Carl,
No offense--but I wondered why my newsreader hung up for sooooooo long on
message 31.  Try to avoid posting binaries on this newsgroup.  It's part of
the Club Rules.

Nice shots, tho'.

BW, and other RAS folks will chime in here: was the M1 a successful racer?
I had a period where I simply stayed away from racing news, and missed much
of that.

I actually haven't tried GPL. Is it that good?
I know there was much talk about it when it was released, but I did think
the other games would catch up with it.

No, only competing itself..
That doesn't matter, since it looks so great.
Also I think that there are so few makes i even more appelling.

Talking about nice cars:
De Tomaso Panthera GTO (with the old bodyworks).
That is also a hairy one.

(I hope some gamedesigner reads this..   ..and in that case don't forget the

You have missed some good racing man. This is without doubt the best racing
simulator right now.

Official Formula 1 Racing is a Video Systems/Eidos game - I think I read a
rumor of an actual EA F1 game, though, but that wouldn't be for a while.
