FF&GPL..seriously depressing:(

by wsa » Sun, 16 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

Just got a new FF wheel...the ferrari thing.
Works like a charm except in GPL..sigh...

I've tried everything with the ini lines in GPL...left them
out...tried all sorts of values...
But whatever i do the FF craps out in GPL..
The wheel either losses all it's force....or it suddenly goes to 100%
force...or it steers heavier to the right then to the left or vice
versa...or it spontaneously turns all the way right by itself..or it
doesn't return to center when i let go on one side...but does from the
other side...
this is REALLY sad...cause when it works in GPL it's great...but it
craps out most of the time:(

works fine in any other sims i tried...just GPL giving me probs
sofar...
any clues or fixes?

aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh

cheers

I haven't ever had problems, have you downloaded the latest drivers. it
could be because a cpu overload, try turning some things down like number of
sounds?

Hi,

thanx for the suggestions but i tried all that....
i'm running a P3 600 and still have the details turned down to prevent
cpu overload...i get a constant 36 fps.
Also got the new drives which was the first thing i did when i
installed the wheel.(1.23)
Do you have the guillemot ferrari wheel?...
If so at least i know it's not the wheel in general or GPL...but
probably my wheel or something with my system....

thanx

*snip*

I have the Logitech force wheel myself but I have heard the
disappearing forces problem with the Guillemot wheel can be cured by
turning off "centering forces" in the wheel's software.
Hope that helps,

make sure you have your power connections plugged in tight.  I have had
similar problems with my Logitech wheel when the plug to the pedal unit had
partially worked it's way loose.

FF&GPL..seriously depressing:(

by wsa » Mon, 17 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I have directX7a installed..
poll with interupts is disabled...
win98se...
fresh GPL install with first the 1.1 patch then the 1.2 patch
installed...
all the connectors are in as tight as they go...

I'm not yet sure about this yet but it seems to happen online all the
time...and offline a lot less or not...
For whatever reason when driving online and then exiting GPL going
back to vroc i get a 'GPL caused a general protection error in the
win98 kernel' message...
This 'seems' to be the cause of the FF crapping out..
Somewhere during the online race the error happens, GPL keeps on
running but the FF stops working correctly.
I think I never had those general protection errors untill the GPL
discofix came along...it doesn't matter if i install the discofix or
not...but maybe it matters if the server has it installed or not..
Anyways...it's just a theory that it might be the disconnection fix...

cheers and thanx for the suggestion ya'all

What version of WinSock?  Is the port interfacing the wheel to the
computer sharing an interrupt with the port you are connecting to the
internet with?   If the problem is manifesting itself exclusively
during on-line play then we have a direction to investigate.

Hi,

Don't know what version of winsock...should be the standard one w98se
installs...but i'll check tomorrow.
I checked on the IRQs...the USB port was sharing an IRQ with the
SBlive...moved the SBlive to another slot and the USB port now has
it's own IRQ....network card didn't share interrupts with anything...
I drove hours after that both on and offline and again i experienced
the FF ***out only online...not offline...
I have to test it some more to see if it's confined to certain
curcuits..

My eyes are now completly squared and red and all i hear in my head is
the lotus roar....need sleep...:)

cheers
