GPL FF and Saitek (MS FF) Settings

by jweh.. » Wed, 21 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I have the R4 wheel, and have been playing around with the FF settings
in the core.ini and the joystick setups...but I still haven't been able
to get one that feels right.  A lot of people have been saying that
with the Log. FF wheel, they can feel the shifting force.  I can't.
Also, there is a significant "dead-zone" in the center.  1" left-right
maybe?

My settings in core.ini are:

45.00000000
0.000000000
200.0000000

I had turned off "return to center spring" in the joystick properties,
but there was too much "sway" as I traveled straight forward.  Applying
a little (in the R4 setup, there's basically none -> 100%, in about 20%
increments) force sort of helped, but I've heard so much about removing
completely that force.

Any suggestions from co-owners of the R4 and GPL 1.1?

Thanks and regards,

John Wehman

Just as you, I'm using about 20% "return to center spring". My FF-strength
is on 50%.
My core.ini has been modified like this:

force_feedback_latency = 0.055               ; in Sekunden
force_feedback_damping = 400.0               ; magische Zahl

I find these settings quite satisfying, but I'm still tinkering with them.
If you find any use for them, it'd be nice; if you find improvements, please
post them on this ng!!

Did you already try to enable "apply force from y-axis to x-axis" (or
whatever it's called in english) in windows control panel?
I guess the shifting force is on the y-axis, like the clutch in Viper.

This could be connected with your "nonlinear steering" settings, if they are
high, there will be a kind of "dead zone".
Otherwise, d/load DXTweak from logitech's Website to get rid of any "dead
zones" (normally you have 5% of it!).

"return to center spring" should be disabled automatically, if you use FF.
At least I didn't notice any difference on my system (Saitek R4).
Is there really any difference on your system?
