GPL FF settings for MS Sidewinder USB Wheel

Can anyone recommend force feedback settings for this wheel?
It just doesn't feel right with GPL. I'm not sure if I have set the
latency wrong, or if it's the lack of G-forces feedback that makes
it feel strange. When I recover from a slide at low speed, the car
will be thrown a bit to the other side when the rear wheels get a grip.
Or there will be some sideways G-force when the car straightens out.
When this happen I get a very strong movement in the wheel that
feels to strong and to late. I'm not even sure it's should have been
there. Just as if they let G-forces affect the wheel and didn't care
if it was realistic or not.

 I have seen recommendations for the gameport version of the same
wheel, but I don't think they are relevant for the USB version
because of the higher latency with USB.

Is it correct to assume that a gameport wheel is better than USB
because of lower latency?

BTW: I use WinXP and have the MS Sidewinder 4.0
driver/Schemes thing installed.

A small stupid "bonus" question:
What is trialbreaking and why is it called that?
Breaking when your behind another car?
Breaking with the engine (and breaks)?
Breaking using some creative foot technique?

For a good explanation of Trail Braking, see Brian Beckman's "Physics of
Racing" Issue 23. You can find the entire series on my web site
http://www.esbconsult.com.au/ogden/locost/phors.htm. or on RaceSimCentral:

The problem is that all wheels are different and also the settings for my wheel would also differ from yours because I have a completely different spec PC.
However, if you go to www.slottweak.com he's got some good info and a couple of set-ups for different wheels.
  [ Joy ]
  allow_force_feedback = 1             ; Use FF if device has it
  force_feedback_damping = 5000        ; force feedback damping coefficient
  force_feedback_latency = 0.004500    ; force feedback latency (secs)
  max_steering_torque = 2800           ; steering torque in N*in giving max device force
You'll need to play with  with latency and torque settings the most, but as a general rule of thumb the torque is around half that of the damping.  The latency is the main bugbear and the lower the better, I don't know what the MS Sidewinder is like, but the set-up above is for an Athlon 800 (o/c 832), 512MB, GFc2 32MB & CL SB Live!, using a USB Force RS with the Shifter running through it and USB Performance Pedals.

Hope this helps a little, ... just play around a bit! ;o)

GPL FF settings for MS Sidewinder USB Wheel

These are my settings in GPL on Windows XP, using USB MSFF (which is very new to me) and I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with them:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1                 ; Use FF if device has it
force_feedback_damping = 40.000000       ; force feedback damping coefficient
force_feedback_latency = 0.085000        ; force feedback latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 225.000000         ; steering torque in N*in giving max device force

In fact, I'm sure I'm not happy with them.  However, moving from a mangled mess of using an adapter for the PlayStation DS controller to the wheel is much, much better.
