Guillemot Ferrari FF and GPL under winXP :(

by Zem » Fri, 25 Jan 2002 03:20:50

I men, i'm a italian boy, new here, not new to GPL ;)
I know that mine is a common problem... but I really want to solve it.
Let's go...

I'm using winXP and i'd like to know if i can use win2k driver (or somewhat)
for my wheel connected to Serial. If i can't, as i suppose (i couldn't make
it work), is there a fix for usb problem in GPL?
What to do? I would have FF activated in GPL... don't tell me that this is
actually impossible! :(

I tried to move my 2 net cards on my mobo to change some IRQ. Now (best
situation) i have that only IRQ number 11 is sharing between: UBS controller
and Net Card. I've heared that sharing usb IRQ can cause my problem. I have
IRQ number 2 free... I'd like to put there usb controller or net card... but
it isn't so easy (i tried it several times).

Cya and thanks for support!

Zem

ps: excuse my bad english ;)

Windows XP "stacks" IRQ usage, Zem, so that's not the problem.  Have you
check with the wheel manufacturer's site to see if they've got an updated
driver?  Did WinXP automatically detect the wheel, or did you have to prompt
it to find it?  A couple things to check:  Make sure the wheel is the first
choice in Control Panel/Game Controllers, if you're running more than one
controller.  And, make sure the USB device is plugged into the first USB
slot.

Ok Chris, so IRQ aren't a problem. Nice.
My drivers are updated, but i'm not using Trustmapper 3.08 only drivers
2.3.6
Is it wrong? Must I install Trustmapper or only driver?
Again, how i can determinate what slot is the first, which the second?

Special thanks

Cya on track ;)

Using the 2.3.6 drivers without Thrustmapper is correct in XP.

If you have more than one USB slot, Zem, try the other one.  Since other
people are reporting they're running just fine, it might be also that your
system cannot handle something and therefore is eliminating the FF.  As much
as it may seem to be unrelated, you might try backing down (to the left)
your sound card and/or video card hardware acceleration.  It simply should
not be a problem with Windows XP, but a combination perhaps of too many
things draining on your system so it is ignoring the FF.

It isn't the point Chris.
This bug is present ONLY when i connect my wheel in a USB port. If I could
connect it in serial port, all might be ok! My problem is that winXP doesn't
handle serial devices.
And this bug is for all windows version, but first (win98, winME) i could
use serial connection for my wheel, now i can't. :(

Cya and thanks again ;)

ps: a easy question now :) -> I did a -windows update- and i dwloaded and
installed an upgrade for a driver (it was a guillemot update driver :) ).
Later I've uninstalled that driver. Now I re-need that upgrade, but windows
update doesn't let me dwload and install it, like I had it. How to obtain
that (or others in this way) update?

Try going here:
http://corporate.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
which will allow you do download (and retain on your own hard drive) the
updates for later installation.  If you uninstalled the driver and went to a
different one, have you tried the "rollback" technique?  Perhaps you won't
even have to re-download.
