Which kind of lap times you would expect to get when driving with BRM. How
many seconds slower/lap? (Compared to best cars: Lotus, Eagle, Ferrari)

At Kyalami?
At Monaco? (this seems really hard).
...
..
.
Is there any track in which BRM would at least be competive against above
mentioned top three?

(I just like BRM...)

At most tracks brm is about 1-2 sec slower than lotus and about 10 sec
slower at nurburgring. The best tracks for brm are those that are quite fast
like spa and monza.

Depends how good you are in the other cars!

But in general it's a couple of seconds slower. But all the cars are
fast if you know how to drive them. A guy in our league is very fast in
the BRM.

My monza pb is 1.28.41 and my BRM pb is a 1.29.8x but that was a real
thrash of a lap.

In *my* hands, the BRM is at least 3-4 seconds slower at most tracks than my
fastest car.
Kyalami
  Lotus 1:21.05
  BRM 1:24.69
Monaco
  Lotus 1:29.84
  BRM 1:33.76
Spa
  Lotus 3:20.08
  BRM 3:27.73(blech)
I'm actually faster in the Cooper at all those tracks...

In the hands of a GOOD driver, the difference is usually only 3-4 tenths.

I still feel that the only reason for anyone to drive the POS known as the BRM
is to work on a MonsterRank...<g>

Yeah, there are guys in my leagues that are several seconds faster in the BRM
than I am in the Lotus... :-(

The Cooper is a wonderful car! :) Except at Monza and Spa....

Comparing it to the Tank is blasphemy :p

I think the only reason I'm faster in the Cooper at so many track is that I
drive it more.  I'm in a loague where I drive it exclusively.  If I had more
seat time in the BRM, I *might* drag it close to my other times.  Won't happen
though - I absolutely *hate* that car...

<snip>

Pretty much anything is competitive at the Ring if you can keep it
out of the hedges... my PB there is 17 seconds slower in the BRM than
the Lotus (8:37 to 8:20), but that's not as much as it seems because
of the aforementioned hedge problems!

As for being competitive, it obviously depends on your opposition
(duh), but I can keep up with at least some of the pack at Spa (3:26)
and the Glen (1:07). Otherwise I'd rather drive the Cooper, to be
honest.

It sure doesn't help my ego any...  But I can't really do anything about it
now, can I?  I have a lot of admiration for guys that can get that POS around
the track so quickly.  I race guys like Paul Godfrey, Paul Jackson, Keith
Alsop, Peter Burke, and Alex Tihkonov(sp?).  I've seen ALL those guys dominate
in the BRM before.  I just don't get it...

My guess is, from watching the replays, aliens and other good drivers
'commit' to the corner more - they dare go in faster and slide it
harder. Also, their shifting and wheelspin control is probably more
precise. I suspect the BRM, given its power handicap, needs to be slung
into the corners way faster than we'd ever dare to, in order to keep up
the speed...

(But hey, us slowpokes still remember the days when we just couldn't
break 1:30 no matter WHAT or WHICH car we tried, so it could even be
worse  ;)

I assume you mean at Monza.  I've only done it with the Lotus and Ferrari.
Maybe I should try again with the other cars?  I *think* I've improved a bit
since then...

If you have done it with those cars there is no real reason why you
shouldn't also be able to do it with the Eagle (easily as fast as the
Lotus), the Brabham, and the Honda (both of which are nearly as fast as the
Ferrari).

Brab - handling - I find it to be twitchier than the Lotus
Eagle - ponderous - can't change directions or accelerate as quickly
Honda - effing SLOW...<g>

Besides, my Ferrari time is something like 1:29.95, so I just BARELY broke
1:30. :-)
