Anyone own an ATI 9700 and run GPLegends??
Apparently you cannot enable FullScreenAnti-Aliasing in any game which is
not 32-bit colour, ie GPL!
Can someone confirm/deny this? Please ??
See this thread:

here's the ATI post on it, originally posted by 3DCube:

This is not a problem/bug. It was a design decision not to support 16bit AA.
If we get enough demand, we may consider supporting it.

Can this be true? If so, it's completely ridiculous, because many people
still play 16-bit games, eg GPL, and I think the original Falcon 4, what
about Need For Speed?, combat flight sim, etc. I fully understand that you
don't actually need a 9700 to play GPL, but it must offer at least the same
level of image quality as an 8500. Going back to no FSAA is not an option. I
know whenever FSAA is discussed, somebody who doesn't know what he's talking
about says, "Hey, dude, why don't you just crank up the res??" - It is not
the same thing at all, as apart from reducing jaggies, FSAA kills "swimming"
and "pixel popping" as well. I know they are not particularly obvious in
GPL, but try a good flight sim like falcon4, and the vast improvement in
image quality that FSAA gives is obvious.
I could accept that the 9700 would not be able to give as big an improvement
in "old" 16bit games as in "new" 32bit, but to actually go backwards is
absurd!
(I was going to buy a 9700 for f1-2002, and GTA3, looking forward to
I should think that the profile of people who can afford $400 for a video
card is biased towards Simulators (ie Old Geezers!) rather than 1st person
shooters (ie Spotty-Faced Punks!), although perhaps I am over-simplifying a
more complex social demographic!!
Anyway,
9700 owners? Please??
