I just got Nascar 2 this afternoon and for the most part, it is awesome.
I really love the spotter...can really get you through some jams. I
haven't been into it much yet, but I did race at 10% race at The Rock
against 91% OPPS, just messing around and won by 14 seconds.

My problem is that the for a quick race, I can't qualify. The only
options for Race Weekend Type are Basic or Testing. The manual says
there is Full, Instant or Testing. To have a qualifying session, I have
to race in a Championship Season. This should be fixed if it is indeed a
bug, or did I just miss something?

Other than that and me not remembering how to drive in Nascar, the game
is great, especially the new Talladega. It is far easier to get around
it now, especially through the tri-oval.

Something else I noticed in the manual while I was looking for an answer
to the Race Weekend Type problem...the screen captures show "Race xx of
32", not 28 as in the game. (page 20, for example) I know what three of
the missing races are, what's the fourth?

All in all, excellent job Papyrus, I'm sure I'll have fun playing this
all weekend when I should be studying for finals.

Make sure you are driving in REALISTIC mode.  ARCADE mode doesn't seem
to allow practice, qualifying, etc.  As for the "xx of 32"- who knows?
Of course, with the addition of the California Speedway (a Michigan
clone), there will be 32 point races *this* season...

You must be missing something, Kevin.  I can qualify just fine for a quick
race.  How are you selecting the race, and what steps are you going through to
get through the race weekend?

Are you sure you don't have it setup for arcade racing?

I believe that's what it was. I went back and played after I posted that
message, and after changing everything to Realistic, I could qualify in
a Quick Race. Thanks everyone.

I remember there being talk of provisionals and having to qualify for
races instead of automatically making the field early on in N2
development. I set it to a full field of 39 cars and raced at
Martinsville last night and it only used 25 cars, all of which went to
qualifying and made the field, regardless of how they actually
qualified, instead of all 39 going to qualifying and only the top 25
making the field. That was something I thought would be neat and was
looking forward to and was disappointed to see this deleted. Not even
any mention of provisionals anywhere in the manual I saw.

The Arcade driving model doesn't allow for qualifying, you start last, just
like most arcade racers. To qualify, you must select the Realistic driving
model.

Maybe the new California Speedway event this year? or Suzuka?

You MUST be in Simulation mode to be able to Qual, and Practice.  In
Arcade mode, you start DEAD last in the race, and don't gget ANY
Practice, or Qual time!!
