SoundBlaster 16 PnP problems with NASCAR

by Howard Che » Sat, 11 May 1996 04:00:00

I just got a new SB 16 PnP sound card, but I can't get it to work
with NASCAR.  I made sure that the IRQ, DMA, I/O Port address are
exactly the same as those given by the "diagnose" program.  However,
NASCAR either hangs during startup, or it somehow gets into the program
but no sound is produced.  Has anyone have this problem before?
Any help would be appreciated.

Please reply by email if possible.

I should also add that NASCAR actually runs fine if I switch sound off.
Also, if I choose "none" for my sound card, and "FM chip" for my
music synthesizer, it works.  However, when I tried to use the sound
card (with or without the music synthesizer), it usually hangs during
startup, after the memory check was done.  A couple of times it got
to the title screen before it hangs, and one time, I actually got in
and managed to play a few laps with sound until the whole system hangs
on me.

My sound card is using I/O Base address 220H, IRQ 10, DMA 3.  I have
tried some of my other games too, and they all seem to work fine.  The
only one not working is NASCAR.

Howard-

Are you running Win95 or DOS? E-mail me more info on your OS, Config
managers being used (ICU or CTCM). I should be able to help.

I recently installed a SB16 PnP for a client and it also
caused me trouble. (So much for plug and Play...the old
version was a hell of a lot easyer) The original SB software
wouldn't work with it so I had to install Win95 first and let
Windows detect it, then I booted into DOS and then used my
older SB16 DOS software to set up the Diagnose program. I
don't like the cards but it is getting harder to get the older
ones.

Hi Howard:

You'll need to run the program 'ctpnp.exe' before using your SB16 under
DOS. If you have Win95, this should be under your \WINDOWS directory.
