Why won't SIERRA/PAPYRUS support 3dfx ??

What gives with Sierra/Papyrus ??  Why don't they support 3dfx in their
Nascar series ??  Why only Rendition ?  Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,
Doug

Uh, Rendition is currently talking with EA about rendition-patches.  Notice
how in NHL '98 that the menu gives you the option to turn "3D acceleration"
on and off.  They don't call it "3Dfx acceleration".  Expect to see
Rendition patches or at least D3D patches before the end of the year for EA
Sports games.

Because Sierra SELLS Rendition boards - they don't sell 3Dfx.  Nuff said.

To me, that's a bunch of baloney -- sure, Papyrus would want to support
Rendition first and out of the box, but WHY would they want to IGNORE
the marketshare of 3DFX owners ... ?  Other game mfg's support both --
EA for example and they sell a 3dfx product ...

Could it be because old idiot boy Ken Williams is stuck with a warehouse
full of "screamin' 3d's" that he's still trying to unload. It seems like
Sierra was attempting to force the market in that direction by purposely
excluding 3D support for other cards. Since Papyrus sold out to Mr. moneybags
they only do what he tells em'.....

I heard through the grapevine that Sierra is working on a patch that will
support the 3Dfx chipset for Nascar 2.  Supposedly it will ship with the
N2-Track Pack.

bunch of snips

Actually, this is not entirely correct. Canopus makes the rendition card
that Sierra sells. Sierra buys them from Canopus with the screamin 3d name
on them, and offers them to the public. Canopus as well sells their own,
which competes with them as does Soundblaster and Integraph. I suspect when
Sierra was writing N2 for rendition, they saw an opportunity to sel the
cards as well from Canopus and grabbed it. I have a feeling with public
support for 3dfx, it is only a matter of time before they port it to that
as well, imho.

Nuclear Strike is D3D. 3Dfx only give you a few more graphics options.
NFS2SE is not completed. Maybe it is also like Nuclear Strike.

But I don't understand why EA's game requires the Glide 2.4 which makes my
Voodoo Rush board cannot run in 3Dfx mode. The Glide 2.42 in 3Dfx home
page just doesn't works with my rush board.

I think Sierra should release their game with native Rendition support +
D3D. This can narrow the difference in performance with the 3Dfx while can
also got a much larger market. D3D games can make those people with crappy
3D cards to upgrade again. Think of that large amount of people having S3
virge and Mystique. Although not all of them will jump to the Rendition,
at least helps to unload the Screaming Stock which Sierra got.

What game *does* say 3Dfx specifically in-game?

Sadly, NFS2 SE. And yes that is true to what I beleive. But still, I
believe Rendition is a better buy. My question is, why don't just they make
a main chip, like a pc and mac difference, with PC's leading. Why can't they
just do the same with video card differences between 3d and 2d. Oh well.

Why can't there just be a set standard for 3D acceleration?  It seems
like to get full capabilities, you need 5 different video
cards...sheesh!!!!!
