I saw at www.provantage.com  that they are selling (although presently on
back-order), a Microsoft Sidewinder USB Wheel - non- force-feedback - for
USD 55.
I see no mention of this wheel at Microsofts Sidewinder site - has anybody
heard of it?

Yes it is!  You can then hook up as many controllers as you like instead of
plugging them in and out all the time!

Mainly it is good for people who don't want to give up their joystick for a
wheel.  I went the other route and got at USB stick (SWPP) and then I use
CH's quickjoy program to quickly switch between them.

Also, I may be incorrect here, but I think some people want USB because I
think some soundcard have problems with some joysticks.

Also USB allows a hot swap or connecting multiple devices (so all the hype
says) which gives you virtually unlimited pontential for device on that bus.

Hope this helped, just ignor it if it didn't.

How about the overhead caused by a USB device vs. the overhead from having the
MSFF on a MIDI port? Vs. a game port device? I have a feeling USB will save
cycles. Someone who knows?

USB is MILES better than the Standard Gameport....

If you want an indepth explanation... goto:

http://www.rs2league.com/tech_talk/tech_talk.htm  and read the paper(s) on
the Standard Gameport...

I say "Good riddens to the SG!!!!!!!"  and so do the controller
manufacturers (for the same reasons...)

Cheers,

Shumi

Well, that depends...

Ever seen what happens when two high-bandwidth devices suck on the same USB
port?

Ever seen what happens to some USB mice when the processor load hits 100%
momentarily?

USB is nice, but it isn't perfect :)
